Default 6-Cell Supra

Hi,

So today I put a 6-cell upgrade into my Supra, other than that it is fairly standard just a Stage 2 Blue motor in it.

I put it on the dyno to see what speeds I could out of it using 6x Tenergy 1000MAh batteries which give a lot of boost and it averaged about 38 KPH / 24MPH then on the last run the dyno went crazy and gave me 54KPH just before the rear tires flew off of the car!

Unfortunately this is caused by how the car sits on the rollers as the tires fly off but I thought it was funny enough to share with everyone! If I manage to get a complete run I will take a photo of the crazy speeds my 6-cell Supra hits!

The fact that the tires came off wasnt really my point! It was more that as the tires came off the car spiked to 54KMH which is pretty impressive for a 6-cell car with a stock stage 2 motor!

Anyway I haven't been able to re-create the tire incident but the car does hit 42KMH / 26MPH each time which is still pretty nice.

Thanks.

def not, with 6 cell power, ur wheels will spin atleast a little depending on what tires u have but if ur converting to awd it converts the power to all 4 wheels and adds control and grip giving u not just more speed but the ability to control it

but you are not counting in the torque in a dyno test , so the stuff will spin with the tires if theres enough grip, i don tthink itll spin on the dyno test unless the tires are not grippy.

i dont know anything about the speed checkers, i learn by driving it. all i know is that using the 6-cell limits the tires u can use without spinning ur tires and without losing control.

I just added 6 cells to my 350 z and it is pretty fast I just have the stage two motor with the drift gear so I am looking forward to the higher speed gears and sometime soon getting a higher rpm motor on ebay or elsewhere!

AWD will take more of the energy from the motor to get it all to the front of the Xmod. If you don't have AWD, you get more direct power to the rear wheels, which makes it faster.

As for the 6cell deal, put in a better motor and the thing will rip.

not quite. it's just friction. more gears=more friction. by not having a front diff or axles, there is less drivetrain friction, and therefore some more power. but, you don't have as much traction at low speeds. so if you do most of your driving at lower speeds...put a lower gearset in there, and AWD. and you'll be set.

it's hard to say just from the rpms. what matters is how many turns the armeture has. if there aren't enough turns, there won't be enough resistance, and therefore will fry the FETs. but the magnets, case, and brushes can also effect the peak rpms, but not the resistance (and therefore whether you'll need FETs or not).

BUT, the only way to get extremely high rpms, is fewer turns on the armeture (which means less torque).

IMHO, if you want big power on stock FETs. go 6-cell (you already are..right?). then get a ball bearing case, and Neo Mags for an RS stage 2 motor, and then run the highest gear ratio. this should yeild somewhere between 30-40k rpms, and TONS of torque. and very much in the safe zone for the FETs

2 important things to keep in mind when motor shopping:
1) armeture turns will effect both peak rpm AND lo end torque (i.e. accelleration). fewer turns will yeild peak rpm, but no torque (and probably won't be able to reach the peak rpms under load, so you'll need a lower gear ratio), AND require FETs. more turns will yield low end torque, at the expense of peak rpms, but gearing can get you similar performance, without a FET upgrade.

2) voltage. always mind the voltage of the motor as rated. for example the 120k rpm slot car motors are typically under 12v of load. stock RS stage 2 motor is rated at 27k rpms on a 4.8v system, bump that up to a 7.2v (6-cell), and you'll be in the 40k rpm territory.

try getting BBs (metal bearings) and upgrade your motor to a stage 2.

i run 6-cell BBs and a modified stage 2 motor (spin brush) and have no problems with power or slowness,. the only problem i have is a steering one and i'll have that fixed soon.

Guys can I ask a question - my 6 cell kit is all fitted and working but I will be ****ed if I can get the Supra body to fit back on the chassis along with the 6 cell kit! I have tried chopping bits of the body away but so far no joy! Does anyone have any experience with doing this conversion on a Supra and if so how did you get it to fit??

Sorry it I am breaking the rules by changing the topic of the thread - if its a problem let me know and I will post a new question.

yes i have a 8 cell supra and the body goes on no problem i will post some pics later but for the tires go in your ladys or sisters or mommys makeup kit and get some nailpolish works great. and AWD WILL NOT GIVE YOU MORE SPEED! just better handleing and metal ball bearings oh yes these are a must. To put the cells up under the back bumper you need to do alot of triming. and all the plastic that holds the bumper on yup you need to take it all out and glue the bumper back on as for the one on the roof of the car that needs to be tirmmed too just trim it down and try the chassie on it if it don't fit trim trim some more oh i think on one of the pics there is a tire missing ya it went under my drier and i ain't going to get it i forgot to nailpolish the tires first! trim the battery holders as much as possible
