Looking for a faster crawling motor.
So I did the HS-55 servo mod for my Titan and don't get me wrong, it crawls over anything. The thing is, I already have a disproportional-but-crazy-crawler zipzap mt that is (believe it or not) slower than the Titan with the HS-55 mod and with more toque. So I'm really looking to make the Titan more realistic. I'm only using a Radio Shack Off Road upgrade kit with a small body lift, again, to maintain realism. So I want to find a motor (and a new motor clip if anyone has a spare to sell) that has some torque but isn't so slow. Idealy, I would like to find a motor that fits fairly easily or with little modification to a stock clip and is about this speed:
and
I can't find the motor on the site listed in the second video. Regardless, you can see I just want a motor that is faster but still torque-tastic. Any ideas? P.S. I tried searching with little luck. Last edited by Smoke&Mirrors; 03-29-2008 at 03:09 AM.. |

That second video wont play all the way for me, but it seems to be a DIYMod motor? Well, he doesn't sell them on his site, most of the time he'll have like 1 on ebay, but its pretty hard to find. So, if you see him around here (he's been here before, he may have been wiped out in the hack), you can probably shoot him a pm and he may be able to sell you one.

This is what he used on his 73' Chevy project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsYYWVnMckY It gets faster at the end. This is a video of it outdoors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrabQDzTFr4
I'm not sure if it's the same motor/chassis combo, but you can find all his video's through his profile and do a little more research on it. I'd guess it's the same chassis - you could always PM him through youTube and ask (and tell him to join here to share his experiences).

faster crawler
the first vid i am not sure what he used for the hummer but for his used style blazer (they go about the same speed) he used and full sized servo with and erector set gear which is quite large for more speed.
the second is the diy crawler motor like said before is very hard to get ahold of hope that helps a bit |

You could do the tamiya universal gearbox and put the stage2 motor in it. Chinesekid did it. Otherwise get a servo and put a huge gear on it. Good luck. I would get some swampers for crawling but this just me.

Would that make it go slower than a 'stock' stage 2? I did the spin brush mod to a stage 1 and it made the motor faster I'm pretty sure. This is a cheap enough alternative to where I could mess around with it a bit.

If it does make it slower, you won't tell the difference. If it makes it faster you won't tell the difference. The only difference is torque. (i think)

I think this is what I'm going to do. It sounds like janikphoto wanted the exact same speed/control as I do. I'll try contacting him before starting and I'll try and take enough pics to get a tutorial up so others can do this easier too, though it doesn't seem too difficult. Thank you c1v1c especially and everyone else for your input. Please keep it coming.

do a search here for my monster mudder project and view the monster truck vids I have on youtube (search using my same username), and see what you think. The same motor could be used for a realistic, but faster crawler.

He pm'ed me about the mod, and I gave him some basic info. I forget what motor I bought, but I bet I could find it again. That thing is pure evil, it is so powerful... I was going through dogbones like they were m&m's at fat camp... ***edit: I just checked thee links you gave him. Great work! You found the one showing the motor I bought and everything. Plus the post that warned about mounting the motor with CA glue. It's a good way to permanently mount it, but remove the gears and dif first!!! A dremel and some glue is all it takes to do this mod.
