Default modding do's and dont's...

OK, feel free to list your stories here as well, anything that you have done good or bad that would make a good tip...

Mine is this:

Do NOT use glues or epoxy material on a part that is STILL on your car. I tried to cut corners and mount a custom motor today. The ca glue ran into the rear gear box and created quite a big problem!!! Instead, just take the part off, glue it, then install it back onto the vehicle...

By the way, this was the airplane motor/gearbox mod. It seems to have TONS of torque, but I can't really test the car until I let the glue dry. I may have to replace some gears, too. I scraped most of the glue off, but it still sticks a bit.

Don't touch the soldering iron.....no really. I'm not kidding. Don't rest it on wood either. There are always tons of do's and don'ts in soldering.

DO NOT: use the screw driver that comes with your xmod starter kit, it sucks

DO: use the xmod tool kit, contains three different sized screw drivers that work great. Also contains other goodies that are a must in the world of xmod modifications

DO NOT: start ANY prodject on ANY part of you xmod unless you have ALL the parts and understand what your doing completely!( its a PITA when you cant drive your car cus your whole rear assembly isnt attached...or whatever your doing.)

DO: get gpm alloy knuckles asap!

DO...AGAIN: get a stock FET motor of your choise.the difference is huge.and you can always upgrade later.

yeah, I use a nice screwdriver set. Sometimes I use the stock xmod screwdriver to start a screw in a tight spot, but never use it to tighten...

Do not leave batteries in your truck/car while its not in use.

I have 3 model body trucks on F150 chassis with the same crystal#. While working on one in the garage my 4 yr old turned the other on that was in the house on top of the computer desk. After hearing him yelling UHOH daddy I come in to find it laying on the tile with most of the detail parts spread out around it on the floor.

It's been said...but it needs to be said again...

DON'T USE SHARPIE TO "PAINT" YOUR XMOD!!!

DO- have a plan before you start cutting up your xmod and a mental plan doesn't count...either write, draw or photoshop a plan/ pics of what you want to accomplish. You'll be happier with your finished product.
