Default Bondo's X-Modster truck

this idea has been floating around in my head for a couple of months now but has only begun to take shape within the last week.
its a monster hummer and in my opinion one of the best/biggest without using highly modified suspension.
this project is about 25% complete.
it still needs alloy,AM BB stock motor with neo,and the body still need to be fully mounted.

it has
off road suspension,
monster wheels,
metal wheel nuts,
S2 with stock gearing(8/24),
AWD
50 degree articulation mod,
6 cell (soon to have a custom batt enclosure),
3 degree toe in tie rod to keep the wheels straight,

and many more to come.

without further ado, here are some pics. keep in mind that the truck will drive in all of the positions pictured.

modified chassis

some articulation fun

hittin multiple angles

three wheel......yes it drives this way

and heres the kicker.
its gonna have twin big brother

cheers,
bondo

this started off as a lifted hummer with with the AWD, and offroad lift kit.
i adjusted the actuation, moved the batt tray and trimmed the board casing so the wheels would turn, locked both diffs, added ball bearings in the wheels.

the wheels came off a cheapo r/c from a grocery store in gatlinburg TN.
ive seen the same ones on a few other trucks though.
i did a bit of drilling, sanding, cutting and fileing to get the offroad wheels to fit in the monster wheels but the ORwheels fit fit in the monster wheels pretty snug. i used a bit of superglue to lock them in place.
i know it has a good hold because i dropped a screw in one and tried my ****edest to pull them apart and they dont budge.
got the screw out though

looks sweet! switch those front tires around tho, you will get better traction if they are facing the same way! Keep us updated.

it is neat, but I see every pic of it really flexed out doesn't have the body on it....can it max out the articulation with the body on it?

what are you going to do about gearing? or do you care...

any plans on steering? the stock xmod steering servo is FAR too weak to be doing any offroading with...

no it doesnt flex with the body on it because the body isnt mounted to it.
the batt packs are going to be reaised from the chassis and the body will mount from those and in the front.

the steering falls into the "alloy parts needed" catagory.

as far as the gearing is concerned im still trying to figure out what im going to do with it.....any suggestions?

EDJ:
the wheels get taken off regularly when i work on it.
their just to cumbersome and heavy to work on it wth them on.

I meant the servo itself doesn't put out enough torque to turn the wheels while on rocks or soft ground. even with stock tires, especially not with big ol' monster truck tires

Yeah, my truck had very little torque too. So I used the gears from the gen 1 and 130 motor case.

I think the ratio is like 100:1 or 120:1

CHUX:
i dont plan on doing much crowlin' with this truck.
pretty much all i want to do with this truck for now is go over other xmods.
maybe once i get it "strong" i might think about a better motor setup for the steering.
it turns well on flat surfaces but its wobbly all around the chassis.
the wheel slop isnt too bad but the front suspension "walks" under heavy load. this truck needs to be about55% alloy, mainly in the drivetrain and suspension.

VZEREEYS:
do you have any pics of that setup mounted and functional?

should be pretty sick man, keep up the good work.

as for the motor, I got a 180 out of a cheap oral b toothbrush and it's crazy. climbs just about anything it'll clear or the tires'll grip.

Good Luck!

My motor worked pretty good but it was really slow. Maybe too slow. But I talked to the guy that made this xmod crawler and he said he used a motor called Lemo-motor.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7wq4zgKSQ4Q

His thread about his crawler.

Wow bondo, nice. I was thinking about getting a truck and making it a rock climber.

Later,
