Default wtf? my radio shack batts exploded.

i have a 6 cell in my evo, and just bought the xmods rechargable batts about a week ago. everything was fine, i went through about 5 charges, and they were ran about 20 minutes on each charge. the other night, after rebuilding my front diff, i was just messing around and i heard a leaking noise. one of the extra cells had exploded, and the batteries were hot to the point that the holder on the bottom of the car was starting to warp. i checked all my connections where i soldered and everything else, and it seemed fine. so... was it faulty batteries or did something else go wrong?

Did you have the batteries laying on the heat sink for the motor? Are you sure all the connections were good, and there was no shorts? Could have been a bad battery though I am not really sure myself, as I have never heard of this happening to anyone else.

i triple checked my connections, so i'm almost 100% sure it wasn't caused from a short. and i don't think the batteries will even fit under the body where the heatsink is so that's ruled out too. idk, the batteries were normally warmer than what i expected, but they were really, really hot when this happened.

Well the only other thing I can say atm, is that I would take them back to RS and get them to exchange them. They shouldn't give you a hard time, just tell them you had them in the xmod and they must have been defective. When you get new ones, try them again, and see if it happens again I guess.

I'd also recommend just get recharegeable batteries. If you keep buying new batteries, its going to cost ya.

Batteries i reccomend if you arent going with Lithium-ions
are the Rayovac NIMH 800mAh batteries which have a
1hr runtime and charge in only 15minutes. I got the charger
for 50.00 CDN and had to get a pack of x2 AAA to make it
complete for another 11.00 CDN. Ive had these for awhile
now and still stand by them....lots of punch in em'

happend the same thing to me. What happend to me is that my spring for the batterie holders got red and lost there spring capability and i pulled the batteries in time before they exploded. Your using the metal heat sink right? if so there is a funny short that passes from a pack to the other when you batteries are placed to the the rear . try to put some tape on the heatsink corners to keep it from having a short again.
