Why does one spend nearly 30k or so to ship over a near 20 year old car from Japan?

Google up some international shippers, I know there's a good few that carry cars just to Germany for instance, so they can run on the Nurburgring.

What sort of car are you interested in?

Just because you can get the car for a few thousand cheaper here, you will pay what you saved if not more on shipping it to you.

Just find the car you want close to where you are, so that way you can test drive it and know what you are getting into.

Unless you are a crazy collector who is crazy rich and this is a car your grandfather had as a kid and it holds sentimental value, I see no reason to look into what you are.

I was talking to someone on another forum looking to ship new Mustangs from the US to the UK he found a shipper doing it for between 2-3K.... I'll ask him if you like.... but I don't really get your logic.... why buy a US salvage car, ship it over, then ship all the spare parts.... way to expensive....

Depends what it was salvaged for. If you were to get a GM car here, GM in Europe could supply the parts. Can be a cheap build. Also, salvage titles are sometimes given to cars with minor problems, or none at all. I know in TX, if you lost a title or bought a car from a yard and fixed it up, the only way to get it titled is a salvage title. Only down side is resale value is killed often times, but this is an easy way to pick up cheap cars. Even cheaper with no title at all if you just looking for a car to tear up in one way or antother.

Hell, if it's something older, parts can start to be found everywhere. An old american land barge. Sure, it may take up 3 european lanes, and consume the city's gas supply in a matter of days, but it'd be badass.

Again, we tend to ship GTRs and Silvias here for even more. Often times parts used on them were used on US cars, thus making spare parts cheaper.

I'm sorry, but thats fairly stupid, if you want to buy a salvaged car, go to a salvage yard there in the UK, somewhere.

I've heard plenty of people buying cars from Japan, like Supra's, Impala's (yea, very hard to belive Impala's would be over there, but they are).

You need to tell us what kind of car you are looking for to start with.

And why are you so determined on a salvage title car, you could get a car with a clean title for a good price too. Just look around, look at your local dealers, car dealer websites.. like whatever your version is of our autotrader..

Ford Festiva. Make it Mid engine with a FWD transaxle. Go find a Yugo and do the same.

or mid engine rwd. that's be pretty sweet as a sleeper car.
people laughin at you...until you smoke them with Rover power crammed into the tiny little yugo.
the look on their faces would be worth all the time and money you spend making the thing.

and Tex, "Save the environment my ***."? hows "saving the envorinment with my ***"?

That's the point. By putting the rover motor (presumably already from a FWD car) on a FWD transaxle, you can easily mount it in rear, using some custom supsension and axles. If one was lucrative, one could use the FWD suspension and figure a way to lock the front steering knuckles. Or even use a RWD car with IRS, use a mini tube frame to mount it all on and rig up some axles.

It's been done many times in many ways.

There is a guy who tossed a Rover V8 into an original Mini. Find it on youtube, it's a total beast.

Here it is:
YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

goto the youtube page for the guy's site on hid build. Seems to be a common thing though, several videos pop up when you search Rover V8 Mini
