Default Locking the diffs.

I've seen the tutorial on drilling through the diff and inserting the little metal rod..

I'm not sure I want to try that, and I have heard about locking them with glue?

Would you guys suggest this? Does it differ between the Gen 1 and Evo diffs?

I should be getting a Titan chassis soon if the auction goes in my favor.. and I kind of want to make some kind of off-road thing with it, so I can take it outside and enjoy an Xmod somewhere besides the office at work or my small tile floor in the apartment.

I have ran into a few times with my cars that a locked diff would have helped me out, crawling over something small or getting stuck on something small..

you do know, Superglue is perament???? I mean, if you do it right, its all good, But I did the way with drilling threw the diff, Yes Gen 1 and evos are different, Both my diffs are locked, and it helps me, yes I would do it, I would do it with superglue if your crawling because the rod fell out a few times, But Id do this,
Drill a small hole in the diff, like the metal rod way, Then put a dab or 2 or superglue in it, then stick the rod in it. Then its good.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the metal rod way though, since you take the rod from the middle of the axle and cut it in half.. the other half is still long enough to go back into place and make everything function?

And, if I do the Evo diffs what could I use for that rod?

Besides the tut for with the rod says that once the rod is removed it could possibly have shards in there that would make it bind.. so it's still a little permanent either way, right?

But using super glue, where exactly do you put it? I haven't really taken a good look at the diffs I guess.

the super glue and the rod would be best. I have done just plain superglue. It works, if you do it right. If you dont you can likely run the diff as well as the rear gear box in the back of the car.

O_o

That doesn't sound good.. how could it ruin it?

Better yet, is there any different way around it aside from buying a pre-locked diff from someone?

i locked my evo diff. and i just super glued the outside. i kept adding coats of super glue (maybe 4) and it fine.

-i didnt really research it i just went for it so i dont know to many other ways.

- I know that you can do it by hammering into it with a drive shaft. then its locked. (there was a vid. on this check it out).

What you do, in a shortened way.
Drill small hole, Then the S2 motor kit comes with a small gear axle, it comes as a spare,... Then you take that, Cut it, and put it in that hole.. Also you could cut a small metal dow rod, or a small end of that small drill bit you used, thats what I did.

You know, you can just hammer the metal pin with an old drive shaft with a hammer.
That locks it...

Thanks and all credit-Texanidiot_25

you can ruin the car by having excess super glue come out of the diff into the gear case and glue gears and stuff together. It happened to me. I used a dremel and lightily took the glue off. Worked fine afterword.

A dremel?
I would just not dremel anything...could mess the gears up.
If you aren't a dee-dee-dee...you most likely won't ruin anything.

The diff is the round "thing" that has gears...turns the axles.
Jeez, do you own an xmod?

I locked the front and rear difs on my crawler project with crazy glue, works perfectly is easy to do and is perminent. With my servo mod I did this **** thing goes ANYWHERE! Now I would NOT recomend locking the front diff on a street car as it does take away from steering responce, but the snails pace the crawler moves at its a non issue IMO.
