Default F-150 Trail Rig

Custom Brushguards, front and rear and roof rack rollcage setup. Handmade by me with 1/16" brass stock. I'm going to paint them black as soon as I get time. I'm also making front and rear skids from .025 aluminum sheeting. Adding scale KC lights to roof rack and front brush guard soon.

The chassis is a custom EVO truck chassis, painted black. I plan on using an HS-55 servo for a motor to get a realistic crawler speed. Mods so far include:

HS-55 conversion
Black Paint
RS AWD Kit
Locked Diffs
Bearings all the way around
RS Offroad kit (customized for best suspension travel)

I'm not going to lift the body very much more, I'm keeping it as close to scale as possible. Body lifts suck anyways!

Lemme know what you think! Comments/Criticism welcome!

I used a 900* soldering iron from work and scuffed each joint with sandpaper before tinning them. Once each joint was tinned, I just held the pieces together with pliers and a vice and put the iron on them until they flowed together. Pretty easy to do, but the brass gets super hot really fast so you have to be quick on each joint or you risk desoldering previous ones.

I'm thinking about maybe building some for anyone who wants them, but I'd need Hummer and Titan bodies donated for a week or so to get the shapes down. If anyone's interested, gimme a holla! Give me a couple more days tho, the front brushguard will include an aluminum skid also.

Thanks!

~Sky~

one question. why are u using a utility rack on a trail rig? dont get me wrong it looks like you did a good job but that just makes it look like it should be on a job site with ladders on top.... not very functional for a trail rig.

I'm cutting the rack down, I still want the roof rack and the bed rails, I'll post more pics at work if I have time. It looks just like the construction trucks down the street, haha

I'm starting on the skids today too, I'll keep you updated!

Alright, I cut the roof cage down, I think it looks better now. I can do almost anything with brass, options are infinite so I will most likely make another one later.

Painted them today, like it a lot better than raw brass.

Oops,

Forgot the pic And yes I know the rear guard is sagging, I won't glue them til the paint is dry.

Painted and chopped! Added front supports also. Adding KC lights next.

Actually this is the first time I've ever worked with brass like this. I got the idea from arch2b on MZR a few years back when he made roof racks for Overlands. I'm glad I decided to go for it, it's not that hard and totally changed my truck.

Thanks man! I've put about 5 hours of work into this project so far, painting the chassis and making the custom stuff.

Nah, no baja for me, I have already proven that this truck can't handle a two cell lipo and be fast and driveable at the same time...It belongs geared down crawling over stuff.
