why is my car smoking

i was messing with my gen 1 corvette chassis putting in 4wd and all of the sudden i smelled burning plastic looked down and my car was smoking what the freak was going on it was my first car other than my nsx

sounds like you have something binding, and possibly toasted your fet. does your car roll freely when you try to pus it? or do the wheels not want to move?

could be a number of things, wont know for sure until you strip it down and check. but im guessing that somehow your battery wires on the board touched .. just a guess!

it rolls freely and the steering still works the car sits and does nothing when you pull the trigger

thats what happens when you give it a cigerette.

it sounds like you fried your throttle fet

Replace the whole Electronic compartments.

still cant solder for crap so i cant do that either is there anybody who can and even if i could my soldering iron is busted i stepped on it

when you buy the whole thing new, its all-set, you jsut clip in the motor...

oh you mean a new chassis right what are the chances all i fried was the fets and i can use the opritunity to upgrade the car

search ebay, i used to pick up electronic packages a few months ago for 20-25 bucks. it includes the board, battery compartment, servo, etc.

i can fet-stack, but only if you buy the fets.
they arent really expensive. you can find 10-packs on ebay for about 30 bucks

Just to add you can also get Gen 1 Electronics Packages from there but you would probably get cheap on Ebay.

I dont kkow if somebody already said this, but for a fact you fried your motor FETs. Thers 2 FETs, one steering, other is the rear motor.

i have a GEn 1 electronics package if your interested.

why o why did you still have the batteries in when you are modding ?????

as most people have said it sounds like a fried fet but it may not have happened if you hadnt left the car powered up wile striping it ,
also why is it when a car doesn't go when you pull the trigger people just think "hey i know what will fix it i will give it even more throttle"
if it doesn't spin first try STOP and find out why gunning the trigger will undoubtedly fry the fets

it was turned off i didnt think to take out the batteries

Same thing happened to my skyline gen 1.
I was drifting with it then it stoped and started smoking.
turnes out it was the servo.
something got stuck and it blew up
i was running lpos on it hehe.
more voltage than it should have been.......
