Motors
hey all.. i have had a Radline in my crawler/mud bogger ... i find that its virtually powerless.. i want a motor i can kick some real a** with.. i need a motor that has plenty of torque, allows me to crawl, isn't a servo, cheap, and fits in easy.. im also looking for very little modification to my truck... just an awesome engine... any suggestions? i would like to buy it at a hobby shop..

IMO, you won't find a torquey enough 130/180 motor size to be able to crawl...
If you wanna find a good crawling motor I'd suggest the tamiya universal gearbox which you might be able to find in your lhs. Make some search on it, Texan, fieldfairy2 and I have it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Another thing you could do is to get a 1:10th scale servo and use a huge spur gear on the servo so you'll get a decent speed rate for a crawler/mudder. |

i might do this:
http://www.xmodsforum.co.uk/showthre...+gearing+setup it seems a bit easier.. and he gets alot of torque.. see.. with my monster truck tires my truck hardly moves.. and can't reverse.. so im looking for enough power to get it to move right.. do you think a kenex servo might do the trick?? one of these: http://www.xmodsinternational.com/Xm...vo%20Motor.htm or would that not have enough power.. cause i got a stage II motor yesterday and it sux at propelling my truck.. my truck hardly goes anywhere..

whell if you look at a mudder they have to go very fast so they can gluild over the mud so what i would do is get a spider and get a 180 motor but if you go to your hobby shop ask them if they have any 180 motors they should have some if they have a heil setcion

the motor you posted doesnt have much power. mattdog on xmd put 1 in each wheel hub, but it didn't work out. servos get their power from small motors by multiple gear reduction.
neos help. drop them in a stage 1 or a low rpm radline motor for the best results.

The servo motor you posted is 1/4 the size of a 130 motor. I have a 180 in one of my trucks with some big custom tires on it, and it moves alright and has to good torque. Tamiya Gearboxes are hard to mount, or at least I've found they are. If you don't want a servo, take a cheap one apart and make a custom gearbox, I'm doing that right now. And if nothing else, mod your motor pod to fit a 370 motor in it, that I am also doing. Maybe I should make a thread? But so you want a mudder or a crawler? If you go with the 370 motor you could use a stock MRC motor, they got some decent speed and alot of torque, more than you'll ever get out of a 130 or 180 sized motor. If you make a custom gearbox, you can make it to fit a Micro-T brushless motor, so you get some speed and torque. If you need some help, hit me up. I might be able to help a little.

Crawling and mudding will need two different setup, as said above, you'll need to tell us what you really want.
IMO if you could get your hands on that K-nex gears, you should go for it. Since it has pretty good torque and a decent speed and for the most essential part, it has a lower COG than any tamiya gearbox/huge motor/servos. |

i would really like a crawler with a good amount of speed... i don't want to die before my truck actually gets to driving to me.. i think i would like to got with a tamyia gear box but i need something cheap.. i think the best solution might be to through neomags in a stage 2 xmod motor.. or the high toque radline i got..

look for texan's s10 thread, fieldfairy2's and mine. EDIT: You can find it online or look in your lhs. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXSR16&P=ML Last edited by c1v1c; 04-17-2009 at 09:31 PM.. |

For me, looking at pics of their setup didn't help at all. I found it to be a pita to get it mounted, but I never got it mounted. Now it's sitting in pieces on my desk...

it seems to complicated though.. anything less complicated?? i think the least complicated is a low RPM motor with neomags..

Nah, that's to complicated. He'd have to actually take a motor apart!
