Stronger Servo gears
Does anyone know if we can but metal or aluminium gears for the servo steering box, ive broke the teeth on the gears for the second time now, and Id like a permanent fix rather then just replacing with plastic again. I

i know you can flip the plastic so the broken teeth are on top...unless you mold your own i dont think they have them

There are no metal or alloy gear upgrades that i know of, it shouldnt be stripping the gears for you, ive never had any servo problems and ive had xmods since 2004. Are you running into walls alot or something? is this a gen1 or evo car?

i stripped mine. That was the first evo i had.I emailed GPM and asked if they would make derlon gears like the mini z.But they said nobody complaines so they won't make them. But they will make stupid parts like the main gear that nobody stripes or cheap ball diffs. This is what ****es me off about GPM & atomic. They make ball diffs and there worst then the stock.I could see GPM but atomic. They been making ball diffs for mini z,s for years. What did they say... oh it's a xmod just make them crappy.sorry for going on but i hate atomic over 30 emails and they never emailed me back.

Ive never striped any steering gears, Ive always ripped the 3 wires on them though >.<!!!!
Ive never seen any gears that are metal or anything though. Your best bet is too buy the whole new front assy. |

get exact measurements on each gear
do a CAD design drawing go to a machining place get a ton of them machined from scrap metal sell them because they are the only metal servo gears on the market for xmods

Oh okay, Thanks.
But do you think youd be able too do something like that with a dogbone, and take it too a machine shop and have them do it? Cuase I always have problems breaking dog bones.. |

can't you give the shop the gears and they can copy them.If so i'll go to a shop by my house and see how much they would cost.It would be nice if a company made a servo saver then the fake one that the evo comes with

As simple as it sounds, it's really not all that simple. It takes a great deal of time and effort to duplicate something so tiny; something many machine shops are just going to point and laugh at.

How do you strip them gears anyway? |

if you had a laser scanner that could precicely scan and create a 3d releif model of the gear, then that would be cool, but there isn't any kind of machine that can do that.
best bets: get new gear set from XI or mod in a metal geared hobby servo

it's not your everyday rc servo saver. Its a thin plastic.I can't see why GPM or PN racing ect don't make derlon gears.I put them in my mini z 02 and it was night & day.All GPM or the other big companies have to do is get in touch of the company who made the car and get there molds.Or tell them to make them out of better stuff.I read alot of guys who strip there gears.I have 2 extra sets so im good for now.

I did hit a few walls in it, i added the lith-ion mod and i got the huge wheel jitter from the 7.4v I dunno if that had something to do with it, but Ive replaced them twice so far. Guess ill jsut buy another servo assembly and replace teh gears again. And crazymoder, flipping my gears wont save it, the steering wot turn at all then

I emailed GPM to see if they would make derlon gears and maybe a servo saver with a spring. If more guys email them maybe they would make them.I just think it would be good. What happens if you have a xmod worth 200.00 and your gear strips.Buy a new car or would it be better to buy gears. What happens if they stop making xmods. Then you have to pay 75 and up for one on ebay.Like the gen 1's

I'd have to look at it, but cheapest solution is to copy them yourself using resin or epoxy (dunno about resin, but epo should be very strong once it cures). Make a mold, make your lil copies.
