Gen 1 or Gen 2 upgrade?

I have a old gen 1 and a new gen 2. I was wondering which I should upgrade and I have about $100 to spend. I figured a decent rpm motor with some lithiums but im new to this. Also what are fets and stacking. Ive looked around and it seems to help with voltage but its weird.

FETs are little chips that let you pass amps to the motor, if the motor say pulls 3.2 amps and your FETs are only 2.9A FETs than they will blow. So if you are looking for a fast motor that requires FET upgrade, then make sure you have enough to support the motor. The best thing to get for first after market upgrade is lithium ion cells.
