will i blow up my car?
i used an old circuit board and hooked up a motor to it. i also hooked up a 9 volt battery. i ran the motor for about 10 minutes to see if anything fried and the only thing that happened was that a little black cylinder thing that says 6.2 volts got a little hot. what is that black thing and would it be safe to hookup 9 volts to a car without any electrical mods done to it?

well it says 6.2 v right?
what do you think happens. If you put 200 gallons into a 150 gallon tank what happens? it EXPLODES!!!! 9 volts will fy your xmod. don't put more than 8 volts in! Think something is made for 6 volts, so you put 9? What happens when you put 4 nine volts to your motor? it smokes, breaks and maybe even explodes!

Well, the maximum voltage limit on an xmod board is 8.4 volts, unless you have a regulator installed. You could probably get away with the 9 volt, but the life of your board might be shortened. What you should do is buy a re-chargeable 9 volt, which puts out 8.4 volts, from what RS says, and run that, but you won't get long runtimes, since they don't have large capacity (about 150 mah). The plus side is that you won't be going through 9 volts like mad, and a Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh battery weighs less than a lead-acid battery.

you can never be off topic if your topic is off topic!!
also, 9vs dont distribute power as fast or as needed as the aa or aaa batts, thats why one 9v could last a long time in your controller(ive been using the same 9v since christmas(all though i dont play it as often, mabey like once or twice for a week or two...)
