Upgrading wires...
Having searched for the last 15 minutes, all I have found is someone trying to sell a wire kit telling everyone it wouldn't increase performance but they'd never need to resolder again. Obviously that doesn't make sense, so I am asking...
Everyone and there brother here upgrades to thicker multi-strand wires, but is there a increase in performance or is it a bandwagon thing? I don't want to rip into my car unless there's potential for an increase in speed, throttle response, etc... Any reply is welcome... Thanks!

no, it doesn't...people do it because it's an incredibly cheap mod, and unless you're running a high current motor and liths, i don't see a point. soldering the motor to the board isn't a horrible idea, but again...it won't make it go faster, you won't notice a difference.

Yea it makes a difference with lithium. Easier response because the current flows nicely. I recommend it with lithium and any bigger 2x2+ motors.

I did it to one of my gen 1's. not the THICK *** wired one, but one with a lil bit bigger guage then stock. To me it made a big diff in response and acceleration. So if you know how to solder good, i would say go for it just dont upgrade to hudge wire bc it will lose power instead of gaining

Suicide is right on here, but i have something to add.
Some people seem to replace some of the wires but not all of them. Now let me make this entirely clear. You have to replace all of the wires with the higher gauge replacing half of the wires in a series will just create a large "bottle neck" where they meet the smaller wires. If you would imagine a line up of people, and lets say they were washing dishes. One person would be washing the dishes, 2 people would be rinsing the dishes, 2 people would be drying them, and 2 people would be putting them away. Now if you look at the amount of work each person does obviously the dish washer is going to determine the amount of work the other people can do. We call this the "rate determining step" because no matter how many more people you add to the other steps the dishes wont get done any faster. Therefore the dishwasher is the bottleneck. Same thing occurs if you dont replace all the wires and only replace half of them... Therefore its kind of like adding 10000 people to rinse, dry and put away dishes but only have one person washing them... |

not sure if this helps but im a car audio installer so wire is my deal man lol
anyway for car audio we found that if you use very very find wire with very fine strands but the more srand sthe better so if your going to rewire stuff i wouldnt use wire that is to thick cuz as we all know eclectricity take sthe path of least resistancemore wires with finer strands= more power but im if the motor or fets couldnt handle it ..then its pointless i guess lol

Most people here use 18ga speaker wire, which doesn't have the finest of individual strands, but it caries the juice well.

As long as your upgrading it doesnt really make a difference, because as i stated that balance point is only a little bit off what we have stock.
It doesnt make a difference if you put 18guage wire or a 12 guage wire, your going to get the same amount of boost. |

It also depends on what the wire is made of. Tin/copper etc.
