Default Project: Evo rally car

hey guys,
since i got a couple of new xmods i decided to do a couple of new projects.
this is the first one. i will be making a rally car.
i am swapping out car suspension with the truck suspension(front and rear)
so far this is my progress:

the rear lower arms fit perfectly, but the upper... a pain in the a$$, lol

as you can see i have a LOT of clearance.
with the body on:

plus, now i have a wider stance

the body will definately change, this one's *mint*
any suggesstions on the body?
all suggestions and comments are welcome
thanks for looking

I'f youre going to do a rally car - I say go all out and get a mini-z body for it.

You could get a Lancia Delta, Or a Skoda...

It would be really cool to see one of the Group B Audis as an xmod.

thanks.

i'm looking for a evo5 body, that is only one slot longer than the mustang chassis. that way i can still have AWD using the truck axels

how did you know that they were pirated?

BTW i get one game for 100 /RS. that is = $1.5

Not get off topic but the covers all look like they are printed on an ink jet printer $1.5 is a good price! I was paying like 5 bucks a game for my xbox and ps2 ones!

Intresting project. I've seen a tut over on XMF where you can easily lift the chassis without the truck parts. I'll have to dig it up. B1G, do you mind if I post the link here?

UPDATE:1

i was trying to get the front to fit and this is what happened:

they are too big so i had to drill the holes a little:

can you see the little bumps on the left and right? yep, those are the holes.

later today i am going to sand them down and get them to fit.
and the front suspension arm, well it wouldn't fit as it is so i had to do some cutting:

that is all for now. i will get an update today later

ok, well i got the front lower arms to fit. pics:

before:

after:

first i had to pull the silver thing out so i would get a clear sanding surface:

i had to drill holes even deeper so i could get the silver thing to fit. but still they are sticking out, not that it matters. you can see here:

notice the back

notice the front.

once again, all comments and suggestions are welcome.
so far thanks for all the suggestions/comments. i have quite a few ideas now.

Yeah this is cool, I tryed the same thing bout a year ago and it was too twichy at that point the lower arms don't go all that smothly in the up and down action. What I ended up doing with a nother car ( a evo tranformers camaro ) was modifying the stock suspention and using the evo truck tires and som shaving of the body and man is this thing great off road. Oh Lock only the front if you plan to use it off road. locking the rear makes it kinda like driving a lunatic. locking the front makes it squirly on the pavement but great in the dirt. Here is my Rally Car. It has many scratches on it but I dont have a truck that keep up with it on or off road.

To me, jepensedoucjsuis (man, I had to look back at your username, that is a really long username, and hard to remember) it looks like you just lifted your front and rear clip, and added 4 truck wheels. It looks good.

I would also like to see chassis pictures.

tayyab, I f your going to make it look like and drive like a rally car, I would go with stiff suspension in the front, and medium stiff suspension in the rear. Why? Because if you go over alot of bumps, and you have soft suspension, it might get stuck alot, but if you have stiff sus. in the front, it'll just have a lil' suspension travel and it might not get stuck as much as it would with soft suspension.

yeah i will go with stiff suspension for sure. I'm cutting up the blue shocks and making them fit like a Mini-z. they have nice suspension and it will get rid of the shocks as well. will probably just use a truck front, can't decide.

i will do more work on this after a while because my nitro's just got new engines(for free) and i doing the break-in and all that stuff and am currently making a track for them as well.

Yeah to raise the ground clearence I just took the truck shock screws and cut the nib off the end and then that gave me more travel. but with a very high torque 14,000 rpm motor, I can go through low grass and over most stuff. I set up the suspention using the silver spings just puled to 1.5 times there size and it works best out of all. the softer ride alows for more ariculation when going over roots and stuff. I will get some pics when I can. Have alot to do today.

Oh and my long screen name, is a shortened version of Je pense douc Je Suis. In french it means "I think therefore I am"

Default UPDATE: 20/08/08 12:30 am lol.

ok sorry guys i know tis is taking long but i don't really have time these days since i have 5 friends who they all just bought mad forces/giga crushers. and i was helping them break in the engines and after that i never really got back to my xmods.

anyway,

i just finished up the rear, it is now in working condition and i have quite some clearance.

before:

after:

the reason i had to build the rear again was that the dogbones were inclined too much and the knuckle would bob up and down when the tire spun. so, i lost about 1 cm ground clearance but i fixed that by adding bigger tires.

oh, and a big thanks to xmod4life and fieldfairy2 for giving me the suspension springs idea. works great!

this is how much clearance i have with the stock tires/wheels:

not accurate but you guys get the idea.

now i have to decide which tires/rims to use. here are a few pics:

clearance with the stock truck tire stretched over the car tire and rim:

size comparison:

and then we have the offroad wheels and tires:

this is how high an xmod body will sit if i use one. just mock ups:

ride height comparison:

oh, and here's a small video of the rear running(in the air):

and i know i don't have any steering but i did small test run of the car running:

let me know what you guys think.

Looks like you've got some insane positive camber bud

I like the rally Idea, but I strongly disagree with the truck tires. Go to a dime store and look at some models, or cheap toys or something and see if you can find something a bit more car-ish. The rubber just has to be fat, not overly large and treaded...

Later,
