first i do a fire amount of painting first let me say that even with an airbrush its realy hard to do most afects on an xmod or model car body freehand (on a full size car its much easyer) for the most part if your going to do things like grafics your going to need to use a mask
second you dont by masks you make them
when it comes to making masks its fairly simple just take som masking tape and put it over the area you want to paint your graphic on then draw your graphic on that then take the mask off the car and put it on some wax paper so you can cut out the parts that need to be removed from the mask without scraching the car, now peel up the mask and put it back on the car and cover up any other areas you dont whant be painted and spray the graphic on

Arrow a moderately good paint job

what i do most of the time is mix somepaint in just a wee bit of water[ to make sure it doesnt run] and very lightly dab a small paintbrush into it and very carefully paint on my car body. my other option is pay someone else to do this for you. [much easier]

actually, painting the car isn't that bad....and using water to thin paint is a
noob way of doing it...if you were more hardcore, use paint thinner. i used
a paintbrush for my vinyls...if you were a noob, i wouldn't recomened this cuz
you can screw up easily...but if you were skilled, use brush cuz you can get
a more detailed vinyl.

painting your car (fully), just use spray cans or airbrush...
