sounds to me like your having some type of range problem. I know this sounds lke a stupid question to ask but I have done it myself are you sure that the crystal in the cotroller and in your car are the same. I have gotten the stop and go effect before from controlling a car with the wrong crystal

Default Check all your connections

Chase the antenna and see if it is secure.
Make yourself aware of the area that you are running in.
Is there loads of radio interference there or not...

To make sure it's not the range, put down the car about 20 feet away from you while it's on and turn the wheel on the controller. If it moves easily, it's not your range. Swap the motor out for a different one and see if that's it.

I also just had a brain storm I also had that problem once when I didnt have a good connection on my motor wire. Although you havent done any modifications to it, the wire is still flimsy and can get loose or break off. I would check all your wires to make sure there is a good solid connection even your battery wires. Other than that if you swap motors and that still doesnt work you might live near a hi interference area try also taking your car to other places and see if taht helps
