yep, here it is as I got it from target.....$10
how I came up with it....well, it was pretty simple, I wanted to use my 180 sized motor, but with these tires, that would be virtually impossible to fit it mounted side-to-side between them....so I started looking for an idea to mounted it longitudinally. Then realized that because of the size of the pinion gear, the driveshaft already spins quite a bit faster than anything else on the truck, so if I used that to power it, that would get me a head start on the gearing setup I wanted. so, I started looking for a way to mount a motor on the top of the rear clip and run a couple gears down to the driveshaft.....and this is what I came up with. still a lot of work to be done...but I'm making some pretty steady progress.

well, not much progress...I did some more clearancing on the main gear (the red one that I added. it was rubbing a bit on the inside of the chassis spacer.
and I reworked (well....more like re did, I started with a new one) the rear gear cover. This is what I had: which, I did something stupid with, and cut the tab that holds the left side of the 3rd unit gear tight in there, and as a result, I was getting some slippage between it and the pinion gear. so I redid it so that there would be some support there. I also added some extra plastic using some pieces of a CD case and some QuikPlastik to keep crap out of the gears, and help re enforce it. I don't really care how it looks, so I won't be sanding or anything, but I'll probably hit it up with some flat black to clean up the look a little bit.... here's how it looks now: both are test fitted on a different chassis...

a little more progress.
painted the rear gear cover: nice and clean, and should keep the gears protected, and meshed properly! also, I marked a spot on the intermediate gear, and did a roll-out (one tire rotation, counted the revolutions of the intermediate gear), and then did the same to a stock evo truck. the stock one: intermediate gear rotated about 2.75 times my crawler: 5.75 times. so that's about half the Crawl Ratio there not including the reduction between the motor gear and the intermediate gear. which, with the 8 tooth pinion, and the 25 tooth intermediate, calculates to a 3.125 reduction.... that leaves me with a final CR of 17.9:1 vs stock: 8.6:1 w00t!!!! I took a couple short video clips of the 2 so you can see the difference...but putfile is down for maintenence right now...

videos are up:
http://media.putfile.com/PICT2530 http://media.putfile.com/PICT2529 I mounted the intermediate gear last night: and, since I had the gear mounted, I could hold the motor on there...and test run it!!! and it works awesome! noticeably lower gears than stock, but still plenty of speed.

again nice work! how are you going to mount the motor?

it's not a double post, the 2 posts were more than 12 hours apart. a double post is when they're back to back.
as far as mounting the motor...I'm not exactly sure. but I've got a gen 1 motor mount, and I drilled a hole in it so I could put a screw into the motor can to keep it from slipping out. then I'll fabricate something to mount it to....I've got a few ideas...but not totally sure.

did some more math. my origional calculations were a bit off. I'm using a 9 tooth pinion, not an 8....
that means the motor gear reduction is 2.77 not a 3.125. which means that the final crawl ratios are different: stock: 7.63:1 modified: 15.9:1 now...the key....how tire size plays into this. I did a roll-out. and the stock RS lift tires (the mud terrains) go 4" per revolution. my big azz tires go exactly double that, 8" so, that means that with the stock tire/gear setup with a lift kit, the motor would rotate 15.27 times for every 8", as compared to the 15.9 with the larger tires and modified gearing. this is rather disappointing. since it means that most of this gear work is done mostly to compensate for the larger tires almost makes me want to switch bodies and go back to a smaller tire just to regain some of this work...

bump for an update...just got back from spring break to a couple boxes...well, one box and a notice that another came but I wasn't home...so I have to go pick that one up...
anyway, got some TENAX-7R plastic welding stuff...which works pretty well. but for most things, I think I'm going to stick to gorilla glue, and maybe add a bit of this on the edges to help. but, I started getting the motor mounted up. I used a stock evo truck upper shock mount, started by cutting it in half, and then doing some trimming....anyway, I screwed and then glued it onto the side of the chassis spacer like this: and it's pretty strong, I'll add another one on the other side to completely re-enforce it....but this'll do for a few test runs: http://media.putfile.com/PICT2631 now, I need to mount the steering servo...and then the receiver and ESC.....and then the body....and then.....and then.... but it's progress
