Default XMDrifter's Gymkhana eclipse gsx 56k-murder

here's what i have right now.:
the pictures are big so that you can see detail and maybe help to point out flaws, ask about certain things, etc.
my first few gymkhana cones and barriers. gonna solidify them more later

hey SPR, that's your rally chassis underneath the subbie body. i just wanted to see what it'd look like up close
my eclipse body:

notice the lip: that's for some extra control out there at high speeds

time-attack style mesh wheels with foam tires:

chassis:

custom bb can with stage1 arm inside:
i might clean up the wiring a bit later(motor wires are a bit long)

here's the fet stack i did for SPR. pics just for the hell of it:

So far:
-removed elec-cover
-direct soldered motor wires
-18g power wires
-custom bodyclip
-side mount mod
-bb can with stage 1 arm
-hybrid magnet setup (one neo mag and one standard)
-awd
-sealed bearings
-metal hex nuts
-regreased servo gears
-light lubing
-antenna tube exhaust
plans:
-SLRC-proto chassis (it'll take a bit)
-handwound motor and carbon brushes
-fet upgrade(if i can get the money)
-sand and repaint shell(i don't like the stupid stickers)
-remove spoiler and add functional wing

that fet stack is on SPR's rally car
i don't remember what he's running in his car.
i'm running Ni-MH because i don't like Lithium.
and also cuz i can keep more weight near the bottom of the car when i use the heavier Ni-MH. that = better handling

i was practicing gymkhana in my kitchen this morning with the car, and it handled fairly well. most of the problem was from my driving, so i just need practice. ^.^
the course i set was pretty technical too

lol. i'm just plain broke.
but i don't have a job and i'm still a minor so it doesn't matter.
if super-titankid is reading this, a little explanation of gymkhana if you don't know yet: gymkhana is basically autocross mixed with drifting. you drift the car to get it to get around the sharp turns and such faster.

UPDATE:
sanded down the bodyshell to prep for paint.
a few coats of chrome rustoleum(lol)
later i'm gonna spray with some candy red or orange, and give it tiger-stripes in white.
pics to come when my stupid computer finishes uploading them >.<

edit: oops, i didn't sand well enough and not i got the dumb fisheye.
guess i'll have to get a new eclipse body or try to take the paint off this one.

i'll have updates next week or something.

dont go for a new body, just take some low grit (like 50) sand paper and hit it hard. for a litlte bit, then take some higher grit like 150 and sand the scratch marks out of it. and then maybe one more time with ilke 300 grit and sand those marks out of it too.

Then repaint, paint with SUPER SUPER light coats. follow bondo's tutorial, or the half ***'ed tutorial in one of my older threads seen here.

http://xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14697

save your self the work and time and money. rustolium really isnt a good paint to be using on these either. i personally would only use tamiya color. theres very few rare occasions ill use anything different.

Cant wait to see the out come!

by the way your parts will hit the mail monday, i spaced it out today geting to the post office.

Some of the best spray-paint you can buy is Dupli-color.[It is just about all I use]
And a good way to remove the paint is to soak the shell in water for a few days then the paint should come right off. You could also use Aznkevin's tut. [or just sand it. ]

DOT 3 brake fluid will take it right off. Just lightly soak it for a few minutes at a time and start working.

Don't leave it in though, it will melt the car

yeah it happened to my first evo8 bodyshell.
it was brittle as hell when it came out (i left it in there for an hour)
i picked it up, and pieces started to fall off.

i like my other method better.
soak paper towels in dot3 and wrap the painted surfaces with the damp/wet paper towels. you retain the inner-shell strength when you do this(cuz really, who gives a s*** what's on the inside of the shell?)
gonna do it sometime this next week. and i'll set an alarm so i don't forget about it

pretty sure he dosnt have a tut, not quite sure what he was talking about...

sanding is the fastest and only CORRECT way of removing paint.

other things can risk harming the body by causing it to become brittle and break easy, melt, warp, or cause other blemishes and ruin it.

with 50 grit sand paper it will only take maybe 10 minutes worth of sanding to get pretty much all the paint off. its not that hard. but i would suggest masking off the windows first so you dont accidently sand the window.

the windows and stuff pop right out. i just need to sand the shell minus the lights/windows/wing/etc.

and i'm gonna work with some styrene to make a good functional wing for this.

You can't make a functional wing at this scale, with out ludicrous speed.

well, semi-functional wing. they really do work though, so don't hate.
10 mph is adequate for aerodynamics to work at this scale(basically when the car has reached 280 1:28 scale mph or its top-speed)

Edit: update.
got the paint on it

and added the finishing touches.

tell me, do you like it in gloss or in flat? it's my first flat paintjob
again, these are big pics.
there are flaws of course, but that's because i forgot to put down a white basecoat first.
i'm gonna enter this and finish it up later.
chassis remains unchanged

I like the flat color, but you said it yourself there is some minor flaws:P

I like how you custom-made spoiler. I myself, am planning to do so for my rx-7.
