Default Cheap shipping to Australia?

Didn't know where else to post this. I have never shipped anything internationally before, and someone on the site is interested in my XMod package. The problem is the cheapest shipping I could find for something ~4lbs was usps at a cost of $43ish USD. Any help pointing me in the right direction for cheaper methods of shipping from New Mexico to Melbourne is greatly appreciated!

usps is going to be the cheapest method sadly. ups will be double that easily, same with fedex. i know a roughly 3 lb package to the uk cost me 30 bucks usps. but yours is going a little farther

yes and on top of that, if your package is more than 2 lbs then you have to name everything in the package and their individual weight. for customs.
That is what the Gal at usps told me. thank fully mine was 1.87.

You might want to take a visit to your local PO and see how big their biggest "flat-Rate" shipping boxes are. I know you can ship a 2.5lb package for about $12 on flat rate. If your lucky you might find a big enough box.

Searching at the USPS web site the cheapest postage for shipping packages to Australia up to 4 pounds is $31.40. If your package is 1.87 lbs the postal calculater says it should be about $17.00. The flat rate boxes are for U.S. only.
