Default New member here!!

I have had my Xmod for a long time, it has been sitting for sometime though.

UPDATE 3/22/10: check below, it started working... kinda

It is an RSX. I pulled it out the other night to use it, and when I put fresh batteries in it the steering centered but it will not respond to the remote at all.

EDIT: for people new to the conversation. We have established that... the batteries are indeed good and the crystals are seated properly. I tried futaba crystals but i am not sure if that should work or not. So I guess the crystals could be bad but I am not sure. Is there a way to test them with a meter for resistance or something?

Not sure what to do.

Hoping to get back into it and could use some help.

check and make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote, and if your have another set of crystals try putting them in it. sounds like you have power, just not getting the signals to move it.

cool, thanks. unfortunately I have no other crystals for xmods. I do have regular crystals from my futaba set that goes with my RC10 that I know works, but tried those and nothing. I am guess they won't work with the xmods though???

haven't thought of posting pics... but ok. it is pretty basic looking. Side mirrors busted off from rolling it when I first had it so they are missed.

parts from radio shack...
bearings
stage 2 motors
suspension
body kit

then on ebay i bought a carbon drive shaft but never got the awd upgrade. (pics tonight)

Since I am a newb all over again I have a question. Obviously I need to somehow get my hand on crystals to try. If it is not crystals and I already know for sure it is not batteries what's left? The main board? But the steering servo still responds?

Can I just upgrade to the newer electronics on the gen1? I am really kinda frustrated and thought about selling but would really like to get it running and mod it from there... i think.

Welcome to XMS!
So you did check the batteries in the remote? Can you control the steering with the remote? Check the crystals to make sure they are all the way in, just in case.

The battery in the remote is definitely ok and so are the AAA battteries in the car.

As mentioned I mentioned earlier, I tried crystals from my futaba radio, but I don't know if that should/would work.

the crystals are definitely seated properly

you can run the evo ones in the gen 1, they are the same crystals. different bands just have the different frequencies. but they are all 27 MHz crystals.

It could be the remote itself. it could very well be the crystals themselves. Heres a link to XI's site for crystals http://xmodsinternational.com/USA_ST...GCRYSTALS2.htm . These were they cheapest ones on there @ only $2.99 for a pair including shipping. Thats a pretty decent price. and if it turns out to be the remote You'll always have an extra pair of crystals which is good.

this is old but update...

the xmod is working and responding (don't know what changed)

BUT... the response sucks. It won't always respond on the throttle correctly.

I know it is sending a good signal because the lights change (brighten or dim) and the steering works great, but sometimes the motor won't respond at certain positions and acts like it is not getting a signal when I know it is.

it is old electronics.
