Gen.1 EP soldering

i have a gen.1 EP that i need to attach battery holders to, and i was wondering if you needed to take the same steps as you do when wiring lithium. Do you need to drill through the board and have one of the wires soldered on the top as well? ive been putting off doing this for a long time and really need the EP, but don't want to kill another one. thanks for the help

If you have the stock battery holders and the stock wiring then there is no need to drill the board, just look at another EP for reference and then wire them the same way - should be a very simple soldering job....

would i just add the wires from the battery holders to the top of the board?

You have a few options:

1. You could use some de-soldering braid to remove the dead solder currently on the board and covering the holes, then you can feed the battery wires through and solder them properly in place.

or

2. You do it the quick and dirty way and just solder the wires into whatever solder is currently there.

I would highly recommend option 1 has it will stop any bridging or shorts and should mean you don't total your board.

YES!
I really dislike how people drill their boards, think logically.
The stock boards aren't drilled, so when adding new power sources(5cell, lithium, etc..) why drill the board?

It shows lack of knowledge from Rob, costing lots of people useless EP(unless you trace where the power sources lead you can solder it to the trace).
If you do it right the first time, there is no need to solder from traces, or drilling your board.
A no drill harness might be in your best interest(take a tinned wire, solder it to a skinny metal rod, cut the rod to an inch, and heatshrink the solder joint of the wire to the rod so the two solder joints don't touch and short the batteries and board).
