Talking Project: 1967 VW Panel Bus

so I am new here, but I thought I would share my first project, I used the 1965 Fastback Mustang Xmods, a 1967 VW panel Bus model, and some sheet styrine. Upgraded to the "stage 2" motor and the 12/25 gearing to get some more torque, didn't loose any top speed compaired to the stock gearing and motor, because of the extra weight and bad aerodynamics. C&C welcome.

little crash at the end.

I would like to find one of the stock frame extentions to try to get rid of the nasty one I made, I want to try to reinstall the AWD option, my extention isn't square and the shaft binds.

Absolutely awesome. I think you should rework your clip design so that you can fit an interior in it.

Don't go AWD, the original buses were mid-engine RWD, so it is scale.

Cool project! I don't recall anyone attempting a VW bus project. I agree with surgeon as far as keeping it RWD and forget about upgrading to AWD.

Nope, Plastic, but still heavier than the mustang shell.

Interesting idea with mounting the wheels. I reccomend trying to get some aluminum nuts from The Shack. They stay tighter, last longer, and compliment those wheels. They're 5/32 hex nuts I believe.

Nice job mounting it. It looks REALLY scale. I really can't come up woth any word other than its beautiful! Great Job!

sorry to bump an old thread, but I'd figure I'd update, one of the rear wheels broke, waiting to see about getting some new ones or to make some new ones. we moved to germany, my wife got orders, so building of the truck version will be on hold for a while, due to the fact that their isn't any radio shacks here to buy new chassis from.......

Where did you originally reside? How did it break? Is it beyond the repair of Mr. SuperGlue? If it isn't serious, you can putty it up and rechrome it or something.

I am living in germany now, Birkenfeld to be exact. I reglued it back together, the problem is trying to get everything squared back up, it wobbles terribly now, the wheels have allways been the weak spot, replacing them will elimnate the problem all together.

Food for thought, if you can fit a reversed xmod rim, you can set the model rim in the lip like a hub cap
