Default Kevin's Tamiya Hornet

I just bought this today.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-TAMIYA-T...item45ef43b613

It has a mechanical SC. I need a ESC, someone got one? ._. and RX and TX, but im going to bring this baby right back on its feet. **** thing probably rusted too, but I'll give it a good clean when it comes Wednesday or Thursday.

and new update: I HAS IT NAO. bwahahahah.

Vintage from 1984 alright.

Mechanical Speed Controler:

some custom battery pack that was left plugged in all this time, gonna throw it away, might explode or something...

Well, original owner had fun with it, so much fun that he worn out the stock front tires so much, they split along the treads.

and guess what? I now have slicks in the back.

fun always has damage right? you bet. The body is like this AFTER I fixed her up.

Whole back section broke off somehow, so i taped it back on. Flexible, yet still usable, exept the rear body mount holes are a bit off.

Vintage yes yes

scraped bad, yes yes.

I plan to convert it to an ESC instead of mechanical ._. AND a RX and TX.

thats all I care, and then get a new body. The servo works fine considering the servo is over 20 years old.

Who wanna buy the mechanical speed controller eh? I doubt anyone will. There also this Futaba Reciever. 2 Channel. AM 75 MHz with no controller. any takers? anyways, this is for now. Will be my nice thanksgiving break project.

Looking good. Glad you finally got it, My dad had the frog, hornet and 1 other. I found the frog and I want to restore it. I was laughing at the mechanical speed controller similar to a slot car controller setup lol. Take your time with it and it will come out beautiful.

lol i need a ESC, the MSC just aint doing it, plus the 4 battery case switch thing, he didnt take out the batteries, so guess what? The batteries are rotted to the whole thing, so I must run a ESC setup now.

Gonna head down to Radioshack and pick up them rechargable RC battery packs or something, and try to sell my MSC with the servo and such, and the reciever.

Wait are you still using the manual speed controller? then yes the servo that is controlling the manual speed controller goes to esc.

I don't have a propulse. So I don't know for sure. As for the battery sticks spend the extra money and get good ones from orion. They are expensive but they will last a long time.

The Servo works, but the MSC doesn't. Burned out resistor? I tried searching for some, but they only sell in UK. Advice?

there was a rerelease back in 04' so there should be. A Wire came off, im going to resolder and see if that works. If it does, time to make duh veedeo. ;D

EDIT: the old battery works. Holds exactly 7.27 volts. I tested with a multi meter, and i can charge it with the pro pulse one, save me some money. It might not hold a charge for that long though.

Kevin, Like i told you on AIM, just switch to an ESC, get a new battery, and your done
if the old battery works then just buy http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/628019.asp
and your done
but again is you wanna stick with an MSC then its your choice..
i was gonna suggest
http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/639155.asp
but i see its $150, but you can run, brushed, brushless and sensorless brushless(or is it sensored? idk its either one).
If you wanna stay original with and MSC
buy http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-2818-ROT...#ht_1469wt_941
its only $17.. and its the same one i have (but the metal blue part of mine is silver not blue )

The original battery works! I charged it for a few hours, and it gave me 1 minute of run time ._.

Anyways, heres what im doing to the battery now:

so now we wait

The Reverse on the MSC won't go back all the way. but still good!
