Default Brakes

i have searched multiple times and cannot find out exactly what the brakes are, the motor in a very low reverse, a number of magnets around the shaft it self, some ridiculously high torque( for a EM magnet) EM magnet, or what. or whether or not there only for the back wheels or for all 4.

The are forward / reverse cars, so (obviously) depending on which way you push the controller the car will either go forwards or backwards.

The braking is controlled by locking the motor whilst it is in the forward motion presumably by altering how current is supplied to it.

brakes on electric motors are activated by putting a dead-short on the winds this locks the motor causing a braking effect

This is actually the correct answer, however it is not quite a dead short. Resistance is placed across the motor leads for a predetermined amount of time to slow the car before reverse is actuated.
