Kinda scarey thinking

Soo I was thinkig after watching a video on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nroo-i8t8vg), What do you think would happen to humanity if a huge huge aseroid were to come, just barely skim the earth, but send it spinning 100 times faster then it is right now? I scare myself some times.

that is impossible...with the technology that humans have now, we shud be able to detect it quite a while before it comes...and if it comes too close, then we are too stupid, and bad things hapen. the asteroid would have to be of a significant size for it to send earth spinning 100 times faster

^ Wrong... even with all the technology we have, we can only scan 5% of the sky at one time.

if it did send it into a spin we'd our gravitational pull might be outta line and if it went a hundred times faster it would seem that our day we go 100 times faster. so basically we'd be pretty screwed

it wouldn't really affect your sleep cycle, you could just close all doors and windows, and it would be dark. plus you would be able to get to places faster in an airplane, because the earth would be moving under you so fast.

What was acctually in my head was would it make gravity more, or would centrifugal force come in to effect and shoot everything off of the earth?

thats pretty much what i was thinking. if the initial impact didnt kill us all, the increased force of gravity would completely level everything, maybe it would even cause the planet to implode upon itself? just like with politics or anything else like that, in the end we're screwed

gravity would be INCREASED?! wow, haven't had physics class yet, have we....


definately would decrease, substantially. the only way for the planet to spin faster, and gravity to still increase, would be for it to either increase substantially in mass, or decrease substantically in diameter (but NOT Mass).

if it were to spin faster, 'Centrifugal' force would be greater (technically, that force doesn't exist, but I won't get into that here), and therefore the final force of gravity would be less.
