given comparable tire quality (you don't really see corvettes with el cheapo all-seasons on them), I'd put $20 on a CRX at a tight go-kart track. where the sheer size of the vette would get in the way. but even then, I wouldn't put more than 20.

any other condition. bet on the vette.

there was a supercharged C5 at the AutoX I was at a couple months ago. HUGE blower, and very well muffled exhaust. IIRC the guy said it was putting out a peak of just over 700 rwhp. THAT was the most gorgeous noise I've ever heard come out of a car. you'd hear it and go, "Concorde? F-22?.......nope....corvette....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmm"

I'm pretty sure the vacuum caused by the air being sucked out from in front of that car into the blower helped the aero quite a bit!

Actually, I think Sweed's Honda may have a fighting chance so long as they both go WOT from a dig. Traction? What traction?

Sweed would just need to keep his fingers crossed that the ZR1s rubber doesn't bite until VTECH... (and that the race is only a few hundred feet). lol

Wow that thing was awesome! I'd like to see one do that at a stop light....it would be cool.... I get tired of all the Motocycles doing wheelies by me....but if a Corvette did a burnout like that....I think I would die....

It's sporty, yes. Fun to drive, indeed (drove one in an empty parking lot ).

But heavy! If I remember right, 3700-3800 lbs. My Firebird for comparo is 3200-3300. And it suffers because of that. Ford doesn't help the stang much there, or in the tight handling. But both Rousch and Saleen make very well handling and balanced cars. (see the Topgear episode where the Saleen lapped much faster then the more powerful GT500 thanks to better handling)

It's not the car, really, it's just Ford. The Mustang is still, at it's core, a family machine. One mean family machine no doubt, but it makes sacrifices to stay comfortable. Unlike my car...

^agreed. stock Mustangs are not terribly fast cars. I've run with a couple new GTs, and 0-70, they haven't been able to pull more than 2 car lengths on my 100awhp station wagon.

they can be pretty fast though. I know a few guys with Fox and SN95 mustangs that are fast in a straight line, and on an AutoX course.

see there is biased people here, we got Sweed with his CRX, you with your stang and if you didn't have a mustang, more than likely you wouldn't be sticking up for it all that much.

What does your dad's Mustang have to do with this conversation?

Nah man... Its not about being biased. Its being truthful. We all know a RED ZR1 will smoke a BLUE one... Its all in the color. Everyone knows, red's a faster color!

But yeah, CRX vs ZR1... Totally depends. I've watched an episode of Best Motoring's Hot Version where there were N1-class (tuned and modified S2K, EK9, DC2R, and an N1 class Altezza (IS300)) and streetable GT-cars (track-ready NSX and a few other ones I can't remember).

There was a single CRX, weighed like 800kg's, stripped, roll cage, everything, with only a mildly tuned B18C that pretty much took the entire course, right from the start... even the N1 cars and the NSX couldn't keep up with it. And remember, with the exception of the NSX, all the other cars were purpose-build N1 track cars...

If Sweed's got the money and the balls to run a single seat track car, he could take the race. The **** CRX in the video was only 800kg's FFS! Thats like 1770lbs!!!!

The CRX's are like ~2000lbs stock, for a 88. They get heavier with the years, with the stock 91' Si (Sport Injected) coming close to 2200lbs... Stripped interior, light tires, and a strong motor, and it pulls.

I want a link to this...

Lmao. The crap Kumho 711's almost tossed me into a drift last night, on dry roads. It twas fun though. Been pushing it... I need some more traction...

I don't have vtec. Hell, I hardly have 92hp....

---------------------
So, let's get back on topic. You're vette burns rubber in one place while my Ricer Burner, Fart Can civic makes your ears bleed? I'll take the vette. More backseat space..

Just go to the JDM video store and pick up a copy of Best Motoring International: Battles at 10,000 RPM.

Its a Honda-specific 'issue' of BMI. Sweet video.
