It looks well done, if you like that sort of thing. and I mean that in only the most positive way. It's just that lowered pickups, painted dash panels, and chrome engine parts just don't do it for me....

Vortec V6 in this S10, and our Jimmy. They also had a wimpy 4 cylinder. But both are **** reliable.
All I can see in this one is a cold air intake. Other than that, lots of pretty billit parts

It still has the 4.3 in it but it has a little work done to it. Like an EGR restrictor, cold intake, chipped, power pullies, 180 Tstat, and a 2.5" cross over pipe. It's pretty peppy for a 6 cyl. I still want to put a LS1 in it some day.

V8 swaps are common. It does look stuffed, but thats because all the accesories are above the motor. You really cant see the valve covers under all the stock stuff. But the Vortec V6 is actually the Chevy 350, minus 2 cylinders. small block V8s fit while still keeping all your accessories, and the stock transmission and rear end will hold up very well. The stock 4L60E trans is the same as in the other trucks. The drive train is good for about 400 at the motor, though you'd probly want a shift kit for the trans. Now big blocks are another story, but you dont typically see that in a V8 swap for these. Mainly, drag racing.
Watch Trucks! on spike, their turning their V8 swapped S10 into a 10 second drag truck. Tubed, slicks, narrowed ford 9 inch, new rear frame clip. Then a new motor is coming in, I forgot which Chevy V8 it was though, maybe a 502? I cant remember. Also, the Vortec is 4.3L, while the current Mustang GT's motor is a 4.6L. That should give you an idea of its size. This is what they look stock, so you can see how much cleaner his looks than mine, 160,000 miles, still mean.

An LS1 fits very nicely under a S-10. The trick is getting it to look clean. But the Vortecs are based on LS1 tech so they match up nicely. I know I drive a Silverado and dropped a new LS6 in place of my 4.8L V8 in a single cab half ton it screams. But since the 4.3, 4.8, and LS1/6 are all small blocks so they fit very nicely. and if you have the cash to drop on an LS6 i strongly suggest it....

I have a 99 Dakota, 5 speed, 2wd, regular cab, with a 3.9 V6. its got a K&N (intake is cold from the factory), cut out catalytic converter, and a cat back magna flow system. So far i have smoked every S10 iv come upon, except one that had a 350 in it (smoked my *** lol). I was thinkin this one could take me if it was 5-speed, but since its Auto i think i could take it. Im not sure on the stats of my truck but i do know i raced a Vortec 4.3 S10 Regular Cab, 5 speed, 2wd, from a 30mph roll and beat it by 1 length when i hit 60 and 2 1/2 lengths when i got to 100, and raced him from a dead stop and beat him in a quarter by about 2 1/2 lengths. PS all those races were when my truck was stock, the add ons were done about 2 months ago and i haven't ran it against anything since it has been upgraded, but i can tell a considerable difference in power
