use trimmed truck suspension top screws to lift it.
top it off with lifting suspension top plates and you have suspension travel akin more to actual cars.
although it is considered rally-car like to have that much travel on a xmod, i think it would greatly improve the visual appeal of this car.

Dark gray, you say? Well that's going to be fun. Perhaps I should get one of those do-it-yourself inkjet decal kits.

As for the bondo spot glaze, that's the lacquer-based filler I was talking about; but I'm scared to use it on a car that will be subjected to the vibrations and shocks of being driven. It is very easy to work with...but it tends to crack and shrink with age--even once it's been topcoated. I used that stuff when I restored my 84 Camaro (real car, not xmod, lol), and it shrank wicked bad in just 36 hours. I had the car looking like the body had never seen a ding, rust crater, or any kind of flaw in its life---and 36 hours later, when the car was primed and left out in the sun for a day, all of the spot fill shrank. It looked like I had primed over all of the flaws without ever trying to fill them at all. I ended up re-doing the whole car using the more expensive polyester fill, which is great---but I wouldn't dare try it on plastic.

Raising the suspension might be an option, but how do you go about doing that?

i've built,modded,puttied and painted upwards of 60+ cars and i've used spot glaze on atleast half of them and none of them have failed yet.

i started all of the putty the same.
either tamiya 2part,quick dry or liquid metal for a base and then spot glaze for smoothing.

Well, Bondo, if you say you've used the red spot filler that extensively and it hasn't failed yet, then I can't argue and have to take your word on that, haha. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the re-direct. BTW, nice cars you have in your garage thread.

I dont think the rear clip will look nice, unless you paint it black, and its un-noticable. Because it looks like the rear will be lifted a bit, not like the original. I'm going to have to try the original "Gone in 60 seconds" car, gonna try to scrap it, bend it, everything else.

Looks like its coming along nicely though. Love the body work.

I was definitely trying to go for the movie car here (from the newer movie w/ Nicholas Cage). Granted, being 1:25 scale and a total fab-job, there are going to be errors--however much I try to avoid it. But it is supposed to be a 67 Shelby GT500 "Eleanor" when I'm done.

Yes, the clip looks tall in the picture, but it's deceiving. Ride height is fine with body snapped in place.

i like the original gone in 60 seconds too.. but i gotta admit the car from the new movie is sexy with a capital T

Okay the nose of the car is finally nearing its completion. I built two screw-mounts to fasten it to the radiator support (a third will be added under the nose, for extra strength). So from this point forth, I won't need to prop it up on a tire to take pictures. I wanted the nose to be removeable to make it easier to A) install headlights after painting, and B) remove nose for future repair work. The hood will also end up being fastened down with a screw, to allow for repair access and possibly adding a mock engine for show.

I also made the side ground effect/spoiler pieces that were missing in the last set of pics. All that's left to do are the upper fog light bezels, grilles, and final smoothing touches to get it ready for paint. That and the wheel flares...can't forget those...

Next big piece of the project will be the side pipes. Those look like they'll be tricky to get right.

Wow, I was fairly wrong. The rear clip looks really nice. But still, you should paint the underbody black, so it looks better, but its your choice.

Definitely. Once the whole car has been painted (the body, that is), I planned on going back and doing the underbody in black. I also want to paint chassis parts (control arms and shocks, especially) to get rid of the "toy" look.

Thanks on the rear clip comment. In addition to painting it and the surrounding area black, I'm also using the tail end of the model kit's floor pan/gas tank area (just the portion behind the rear wheels). With that in place, you almost can't see the clip without lifting the car and looking from underneath.

Quick updates. Fender flares done, side pipes 90% done, upper fog light bezels started. A little more smoothing, and then I can prime the body and see where the flaws are hiding...
