Patriot comp- Project Kent International

I've been wanting to redo my baja for awhile, but it wasn't until recently that I had an oppurtunity and inspiration to do so. Some of you from UXF remember it:





As some of you may know, I am a HUGE supporter of civil liberties, and feel they and the act of protesting is the most patriotic thing a person could do. Without checks and balances to regulate the government to the people, we would be no better than Nazi Germany. With this in mind, I am chosing the theme of the Kent State Shootings, or the Kent State Massacre. Those not familiar with this:

"The Kent State shootings, also known as the May 4 massacre or Kent State massacre,[2][3][4] occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.[5]

Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the American invasion of Cambodia, which President Richard Nixon announced in a television address on April 30. However, other students who were shot had merely been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.[6][7]

There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of eight million students, and the event further divided the country, at this already socially contentious time, along political lines."

I think this is a pivot point in American history, and perhaps by spreading the knowledge history will not repeat itself. For this project I will attempt to mural paint the shootings on the bug. One side will feature the national guard, the other featuring the protestors being gunned down. The top will be a recreation of an American flag.

Any ideas for this project would be greatly appreciated.

The only two bodies I have to use are this and an international Scout...do you think I should go with the scout?

i like the ideas of this project and think in todays current climate it will give a very poignant message

I hope you don't plan on making it look violent, what'll be the main color, btw did you know hitler of nazi germany is responcible for the original Volkswagon beatle?

It will be open to interpretation. Yes, I did. Volkswagen, translates into peoples car, or wagen for the Volks.

The Scout would be much better since its flatter. Maybe you should take some styrene or some putty and mold it on the windows to make it like a panel car. Then you could have mor painting real estate. But it might look better on VW Bug because it's abnormal shape plus your paint skills coul make it into a real beauty.

Took the van into consideration and decided to go with my international body. I got a lot of the base painting and color washing done, and the composition is coming together for this.





I still have lots of underlaying to go before I start the final paint, I am kind of stuck until I pick up some cheap white paint, the good stuff doesn't dillute with water and my painting style relies on many translucent layers with opaque white and black as the final overlay. The detail will be more pronounced as the picture progresses.

If someone could change the title to Kent international, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, I am going to try to take my time and finess it to shape. I am still learning the tricks to this paint, as I am used to acrylic.

Thanks a lot. I have wanted to do a mural style, but never got the oppurtunity... so I finally got my chance.

Will you be adding stars any where, like the hood perhaps?

I am not sure If I will be doing stars, but there will be white spots to it. I was thinking of doing white bullets and peace signs. "The duality of man" as it is put in full metal jackett....not entirely sure yet, and it will be the last thing completed.

just an idea maybe you should do some grafiti styyle peace symbols and stuff on the hood or roof

Finally found the white I needed late last night, put in all the work in a last minute frenzy.
