Time for an update!

The widened wheelbase is wonderful. It turns alot better, and I can keep decent throttle into turns. The Direct Drive setup is much better, too. It eliminates the friction the gen1 rear end had. Not only that, but the acceleration is quick and smooth.

The front suspension is still under construction. Right now it has ATM SAS adjustable shocks with medium springs, but its too hard for my tastes. I like the responsiveness, but the turning radius shrank a little from when I had soft springs. My solution? A sway bar.

Any chance for an under-chassis shot? I'd like to see how you managed to get the iWaver rear pod attached to the Gen1 tub.

LOL Red...

Yeah i was thinking about trying to make a custom bottom chassis, that fits the original tan chassis, or a team XI chassis without modification thats built for a direct drive setup...

But my car is only RWD so it wouldnt work with an AWD car...

Sweeds just jealous because the price of gas is up, and he has to much stuff to buy for his 1:1 car. I do have a job...

The anti-roll bars are looking a little sketchy right now. I'm still not sure how exactly to mount it. I just have to bend a paper-clip to the shape, however, mounting it to the knuckle is the tough part....

Well, I got my Intellects charged up, and set out to make myself a track. After sweeping up the garage floor, and laying out a track (2x4's worked wonderfully) I was ready to start testing out the current setup. Right now the suspension looks like this:

3° tie rod (plastic)
aluminum knuckes (0°)
medium/stock springs with tweaked preload
Stock shock/pod/T-bar setup in the back

I am very pleased with the smooth, acceleration, and quicker response from the Direct Drive setup. With a 7t pinion, I was mostly able to keep full throttle out of the turns with a 42t pattern wound motor! However, the dusty floors combined with a relitively soft rear suspension created poor rear traction and I'd have to reduce throttle to about 25% without spinning out. Its flat out dusty, so I think that might be a little bit of a problem, lol.

I drove for about 3-4 hours, so I really got the feel of the car, and was able to do a lap fairly decent (I'm kinda bad at driving, lol). Through out the entire test run, I only broke one thing. The servo horn, which was in need of an update anyway. Everything got a nice coating of dust, too. Looks like I have some cleaning and bearing lubeing to do:

Here's three quick snaps of the car. Ignore the lego's glued onto the battery holders. I'm trying to figure a mounting setup, seeing as the rear pod eliminates the stock mounting setup:




Best part was, I actually had a ton of fun just driving around the track. If I can have more days like that one, I'll be a great driver in no time!

You bet! It makes the xmod feel soooo much more precise. Just the Direct Drive setup alone does sooo much....

Wow, you certainly do have a dusty garage. Have fun cleaning that baby!

If either of your parents have a Sams Club membership, you should think about picking up some foam tiles. I was just there this evening and saw a package of 8 tiles for $15. The medium-sized 1.5' x 1.5' ones in assorted colors.

You know how to get rid of that dust...?

Open your garage door and just take one of those gas leaf blowers to everything in sight, itll lift all the dust. Then just leave your door open for half a day and a lot of it should just get up and leave...

Another way of getting rid of a lot of dirt and debry is to clean it top to bottom one day. Its should stay clean for a long time...

THE BEST WAY THOUGH:

Those roll on deck liners with rubber compound bits in them. They provide a nice even surface and give so much grip that your car will flip before you lose traction...Way better than RCP mats...

A way you might be able to mount it is to glue the battery clips to the inside, then to take the body off just pop the clips off.

Update? Ressurection? Whatever...

I got my order from AM. A Kyosho Version II Ball Differential (set me back $30) some assorted SSG (silver surface graphite, its beautiful), superflex wire, some assorted springs, and a stock gen1 chassis tub.

After sitting downstairs for a half hour working on it, I got the chassis setup, and began to work on mouning the batts to the elecs. After another half hour or so, I had managed to fry my electronics, lol. Anyone got gen1 electronics uber-cheap, lol?

I like how clean the install was. Rather than my first method (zip-ties and a piece of styrene), I just drilled and installed. I can even put the stock rear end on if I really desire. However, it did extend the chassis from a 98mm wheelbase to about a 100-102mm wheel base, so the Pan Car will be undergoing even more chopping

I took two pics, and then my camera died, so deal with my lack of photos:

Dynamite Tazer 12t ESC
Futaba R152JE reciever
Futaba 2PH AM transmitter
Hitec HS-55 servo

All of the components will probably be uncased, even though they fit fairly well. It'll lessen the weight, though. And, I got the chassis back down from 102mm to about 98mm!
