Default New to Xmods and having some difficulties.

So I got my first XMOD today, it is a Nissan GTR. I had some friends in the hobby,so I began to upgrade right from the get go...before even playing with it stock, I took out the 27k motor and put in a stage 2 30k motor from my friends hummer, as well as a light kit. Upon driving the GTR I realized I can't get it to go straight, it immediately turns to the right, and I can't get it to go straight. I also realized when the car gets about a yard away from me it stop going, and i have to move closer for it to pick up the signal again. I also noticed even though I upgraded the motor it seems to go slow in comparison to my friends GEN 1 stage 2 teeth 10, and stage 2 teeth 11...

You lose range? Well, I bet you forgot to put on your antenna that is supposed to go in the car. And on top of your controller there is this steering trim labeled L and R. For example your car goes to the right. Press the L button until it drives straight. If you don't want to do that every time you use your Xmod, You will have to center your servo. Slow Motor? Your gearing probally is in top speed, not the torque gearings. Oh by the way, make sure you don;t mix batteries and use fresh ones. On my other R/C My controller was low on battery. The Car would go very sluggishly and response and range went down significatly. Excuse my typos

The antenna is on... I was trying to play around with the L and R buttons, but they dont seem to do much... How do I change the gearings? How do I center the servo? Better yet, what is the servo.

Servo is the motor that turns the car. It might be defective. Since its new go return it, Snag some spare parts off it also :P

maybe the wire on the pot is loose, changing gears just pull the one off the motor and put another one on from the s2 package don't forget to put the right spacer in and if you return it don't forget to take that stage 2 out or your friend will be mad. and one time over here there is a guy that is always reading a magazine that never looks up to see who it is. the only time he looks up is when someone wants to buy something or his boss comes in. one time some guy brought his xmod in and said it was defective and walked out with a PP if you want to know why the RS exclusive is the RS dropped the price on the PP an it was 50 but i might go today and pick up another xmod or a propulse.

If your antenna touches the power (batteries, motor, etc) you can fry the range resistors.
As for the steering is it a MAJOR problem or a minor one? the servos on the xmods are rarely perfect in my experience...
If you just got it I'd change it back to stock and exchange it.

could not have said it better, i bought the same car last month and it was a pos, i got my money back and bought a barracade evo xmod off ebay new for $39.99 shipped cheaper than the new ones from raido shack. and a better car right out of the box because u cant change the crystal out on the new xmods from raido shack unless u do all kinds of work on it.

I'm finding the EVO market annoying. First they were $50 then $20 now $50 again. And the new ones don't even have interchangeable crystals!
I almost got an AWD kit for $0.97, but the got back ordered the day before I stopped by RS! I just got one (now that they've restocked for street series) for like $18 or whatever it is.

On the controller, did you make sure that the range knob is turned to max? That was causing trouble for mine.

they should exchange it like that. Now if you were going for full refund they may fight you since you don't have the package stuff as well but hopefully your radio shack isn't like the one I go to in the mall...
