Talking Future project...maybe

After seeing AeroSynch's 1/10 Pajero Crawler, and since my budget can't afford that....I was thinking about making a Xmods Mitsubishi Pajero rock crawler..
Only problem is....my budget. So I have some basic ideas, but I was really just wondering how much it will cost me to make a rock crawler, that can actually crawl over rocks..

Any suggestions/ideas would help me out. Like I said its gonna be a Mitsubishi Pajero though...

-Tamiya universal gearbox: roughly $15 bucks from towerhobbies. You'll have to e-mail tamiya about a gear.
Put a set of neo mags in the motor

Unholy mess of torque. Only dissadvantage is it's size.

-HS55 servo
small and compact, needs cutting and modding to the motor cradle to fit. Not very durable and the motor tends to burn out.

Aoshima Super Swampers: Best tires for our size trucks on the cheap. RPP hobby used to sell them, they come in Tamiya model kits for the Toyota Hilux

Bearings aren't needed in a crawler, they don't rely on RPM. Easier to clean too.

Model body, should cost anywhere from 15-25ish, though I'm not sure I've seen the Pajero as a model. Though, on atomicmods.com I do believe there is a pajero for the Mini-z overland. Perfect scale for our trucks, but you do have to modify the body to fit.

Using the Tamiya gearbox (w/ neo mags), Aoshimas, AWD, and the lift kit, I built this truck for under 40-50ish bucks, not including the truck chassis. And this was a year or so ago.

I forgot to mention I'm a newb at modding....
I saw something about Radline motors....and that they fit the stock motor cradle...will one of those work? The setup you had looks quite hard...

I need something easy too..

I didn't find a Mini-z Pajero body on AM.

my setup is really easy. 1 screw and 1 small hole drilled, then soldering motor wires.. No cutting or glueing Hardest part was putting in neo mags.

Did you use the xmods lift kit, or a custom one?

go with a gearbox you can mod the motor with neos and maybe change in armature winds. since you want a pajero they are like a suv and the gearbox will probably scrap the top of the body so go with a hs 55 servo to keep space between the motor and the body and to keep the articulation. but i run the gearbox since most bodys scrap the gearbox i just backhalfed a truck

I think I'll go with the HS-55 servo. After reading that tut it seems pretty easy. I gotta find a model kit though with the swampers. As far as I know the Pajero ones don't have them. Might just have to go with a good ole Chevy.

Gear box is easier, no cutting and glueing. And won't burn up. Servo motors don't like our abuse much

Just gotta grease the gears good? After reading your entire thread on yours...it does look way easier. Kind of dislike the fact of how it sticks out though but oh well....

That's because Texan's was a pickup. If you do a Pajero, the gearbox would fit perfectly under the roof.

it may fit perfectly under the body standing still but when it trys to articulate it will maybe scrap the top of the body. but ill stick to what i said before go with a gearbox.more reliable and if broken easy to fix.

I will go with the gear box, but I will have to find someway to cover it....

When I was driving down the highway today I saw a school bus....then I thought of a Short Bus crawler... That might cover and still have enough room for articulation.

That would look, weel very odd. A gearbox is good, but I would say go with a servo. From my experince with gearboxes, and servo's, gearboxes can get looked from sand getting in between the gears, and stop them, with servo's, the servo will not get sand in it, so the servo will still be running strong. But there are bad things about servo's, you have to open them up and modify them, and if you mod. them wrong, you might have ruined it or the gear.
