Depends.

Everyone starts at the same level, and that is with a trainer plane. These have a smaller motor, more fuel capacity, and can "float" a lot easier in the air because of the much larger wing and dihedral in the wing. Typically are four channeled, aileron, rudder, throttle, and rudder.

Then you can move onto faster, smaller/larger airplanes. These are pattern planes, and will work on varying axsies. These can run from a four channel, but most are four/five. They are four or five because you can "sync" certain servo's to do certain maneuvers.

Either way you go, it costs a lot. Seach a more plane oriented forum for more information.

Not really. The Firebird (I had a XL) costs around $100. It's a good plane if you never flew before. It's easy to fly, takes abuse (flew mines into Poles, buildings, roads, walls..), and stands up. Plus new wings are less than $20 so parts are cheap...

But assuming you're under $18, insurance is cheap (What is it called, AMA?), but otherwise I think it's like $20 if you're not a youth. Most clubs and airfields require it.

Talk to Donzii. He know's quite a bit about this plane bussiness.
