Default GTR Project

Well i'd like to start off by saying that this is my first R/C. I chose XMODS due to the affordability and fun factor. I'll make a list of the items i've purchased so far......

Radio Shack upgrades
------------------------------
GTR evolution series
Stage 2 motor kit (installed)
AWD kit (installed)

Aftermarket Stuff
--------------------------------
Stileto aluminum chassis (not installed)
Metal bearings (not installed)
Lithium-ion 7.4v 1200mah Ps2 Battery Pack (not installed)
Aluminum Front Shock Mount (not installed)
Aluminum Main Gear protector (not installed)
Aluminum Front Knuckles (not installed)
Aluminum Rear Knuckles (not installed)
Aluminum Steering Plate (not installed)
Aluminum Front wheel Shaft (not installed)
Aluminum Rear wheel Shaft (not installed)
Aluminum Front Lower Arm (not installed)
Aluminum rear skid plate (not installed)

Like i said this is my first hobby R/C vehicle so any comments or suggestions will be helpful.

Once i get everything installed i'll take some pics. As of right now it just looks stock.

I will update my list of upgrades as i get them and i'm planning on doing a custom body. Not sure what kind of body yet though. Also want to buy a truck, but that's for later. Thanks in advance.

To answer your question about lithium it has a high mah, meaning it'll probably last longer than most rechargeable batteries, and it has CRAZY voltage for high power.

I believe all you need to solder are the battery wires. Also, if you are asking about having to stack FET's or getting a new board, then you don't have to. It will have better performance with any kind of new electronics, so keep that in mind.

if you can't solder, then the upgrades you got are a good starting soldering difficulty.
you'll need solder, a soldering iron (creful, it's really hot...been burned a few times, and it's pure agony), some kind of safety glasses, and a stable work table.

melt a little solder on the tip of the soldering iron, then touch that tip to the end of what you're trying to solder, and touch the solder to it at the same time. the solder should melt easily and bead up. take away the soldering iron and solder, then pick up your wires.
hold the wires about an inch and a half from the end you're soldering and lightly push it against the solder bead. heat it with the soldering iron until the bead is melting and pull the iron away, holding the end of the wire in the melted solder until the solder solidifies.

li-po is high power and high torque. make sure you have the appropriate charger. the charger MUST by li-po specific because lithium technology cells are volatile

Thanks for the tips on soldering. I'm sure that will come in handy when the parts arive.

I bought the batter off ebay so i doubt the charger it comes with is the right one. Here is a link to the auction.

ok pack
bad charger
do yourself a favor, and buy a proper charger to replace that crappy one that supracing says is a "smartcharger"
his charger will just blow your pack up.
though it's a bit expensive to get a good charger, the good charger will last well past the time when the li-po pack has lost all its punch (that's like, a few years.) and it's the only li-po charger you'll ever need to buy.

here's a link to a decent one:
http://www.atomicmods.com/Products/D...er__13380.aspx

and the required power supply:
http://www.atomicmods.com/Products/1...or__10039.aspx

charge on 1Aor .5A
2A seems too high for supracing's cheap cells to charge on safely
