Brushless Xmod Evo (Mamba) Project
i posted this on a few sites to see what people would think about it. post a comment and let me know what you think! the car is 100% completed, this just shows the process and build of the xmod.
this is my project for the summer. a Castle Creations Mamba 6800kV powered 2nd Gen Xmod. this motor was just sitting around in my room gathering dust so i decided to make something. this pic is of the mount that would house the motor: This was where i had to trim plastic away from the mount so the motor would rest level to the chassis. This is the mount with differential and spur gear with rear suspension mounts: again with motor spacer: motor at rest in mount without strap: again with gears meshing: Motor in mount with strap: this part was tricky, trying to get the strap to fit around the motor i ended up using some longer screws and having a space between the strap and the chassis: again front view: next was the most difficult along with the bugs with servo centering. i had to convert a 5-wire servo into a 3-wire plug. this was done using an airplane servo: i took it apart and looked at the circut board. it converted 5 wires to 3 so i unsoldered the 5 wires from the pot and the motor inside the servo: i slipped the board down inbetween the slot where the AWD Drive shaft would normally sit and soldered the wires according: Servo Board Stock Servo black white white orange red black Motor Stock Servo Motor black red white black Here is the whole car minus the esc and battery wired: i had a problem with the tires rubbing on the bottom of the motor, this was solved by longer screws and the hardest type of truck springs i could find. whole car not wired: car completed (messy): heres a vid of the tire shredding apart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2szRNs1vRdg can anyone help me with the issue of the servo not centering? the servo was a Tactic nano from a cessna. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_AqB00LNDM smokin the tires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mil3BfUbkQw according to this site ( http://www.race-cars.net/calculators...alculator.html ) it has the capability to do 86mph. thats 172mph at 1 wheel! (if the opposite wheel is stopped) im also trying to find a way to use the stock wire antenna instead of using the soft wire that comes on the receiver. i may have found a way for the steering to center. using the pot from the tactic servo i used. i drilled out the sway arm from the old pot to fit the shaft on the new pot, i had to trim the shaft down about quarter inch to make it fit. IT RUNS COMPLETELY PERFECTLY!!! HOLY **** I GOT THE STEERING TO CENTER!! YESSSSSS!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aO8q770CoM i now own possibly the fastest xmod ever. heres a pic of the car with my Saleen body: The 1st test (ever) will be a speed test on 4 Energizer Ultimate Lithium cells. (9 effing bucks for 1 pack Dx) theyve shown a significant boost in power and speed vs alkalines. The body will be ON to help with aerodynamics and reduce drag. I have never driven this car outside because i dont live on a smooth road. So ill head out to the tennis courts soon. Last edited by pointblank9957; 06-20-2011 at 09:17 PM.. |
