Steering Issue
Hello. I recently got back into xmods after being away for a few years. Anyway, I broke out my gen 1 skyline and ended up having to get some new batteries. So I got some new RS rechargeable ones, most of that seems besides the point but it might help anyway.
Anyway, my issue is, that my steering spazzes out when I get close to either extreme in the steering angle. When I say spazzes out, it seems to vibrate from one extreme to the other VERY fast (it sounds like a high pitched version of your cell phone's vibrate function). It stops when I finally get to either extreme, and hasn't happened while driving. But I'm wondering what could cause this? I searched around a little bit but couldn't find this problem posted before, sorry if it was, I tried my hardest to find it. Thanks, Randy |

the gen1's had a lot of problems with servo jitter, you might be able to help it a bit by trying to find a remote that is perfect electronically since some controllers eren't very well programmed/buit, so the remote's signal isn't exactly right.
try different remotes first. if it doesn't help, a new EP and if the problem persists...well, can't help you there. buy a new one i guess.

Well I tried my other remote before, not to try and fix this but because I only had 1 9v battery at the time. The controller was from my new GT-R, and even though it has the built in crystal it runs at the same frequency as the crystal in my gen 1. It didn't have the steering problem if I recall but it had a problem where under full throttle it would skip about once every second (pretty consistent too). But thats a problem for another time maybe?
Also if it helps, it never used to do this back when I used it before it went into storage. |

try getting a can of compressed air that people use to blow dust off computer motherboards. idk what it's called, but try blowing that through your EP to see if the dust has been affecting it. if it helps, then it might be that you've had it collecting dust too long and the dust is messing it up.

i havent seen it done myself yet but...
what about scrapping the Xmod electronics altogether?? get a micro servo, micro ESC and use those? other then that using the xmod electonics would mean fixing the jitter. here are a few ways to remedy this: http://rcx.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=7 Last edited by torredo; 12-09-2008 at 10:51 AM.. |
