Default My Other Half

Lots of you know I'm good with electronics, chassis, and other things. But Bondo called me out on my visuals, so I'm going to show you that I am very capable of doing visuals, and not a slacker at all.

June COTM is where this project is going.

It is the new GTR, it will be sitting on the Micro-ZX chassis.

So far I have it:
Masked
Put elmers glue on details to preserve them (logo etc)
and thats it :P

Next I need to shorten the chassis, which is going to be a pain, but I've already ripped off the electronics etc.

I am going for a white base color, with a little bit of red here and there.

Mockup of where everything is going

Thanks xmod4life

It's raining outside, so I just might paint it at school tomorrow in one of those fancy spray booths.

Anyone know if this is high quality paint? I just want the best result, if you know what I mean.

Same advise I gave myself- buy an airbrush and don't deal with spray cans clogging or spitting. Plus you'll only need to buy bottles enough for 1-2 cars and you'll be able to brush on for touch ups.

Otherwise invest time in the visuals if you're gonna enter it ina competition dude.

Just took pictures of it masked, and sprayed the first layer. Airbrushes are expensive, so I'll wait till christmas Pictures up between now and 10 pm

It might be off balence, it might not, it all depends on the weight of the servo and board, also the placeing of the batteries. If he brings the batteries in more on the chasis and pushes the board and servo out tward the edge, it might help to balence the car more

well, tbh, i personally don't like testors enamels. ell, i don't like any enamels, mainly cuz they harden too slowly.
enamels sometimes spray thick out of a can. i would've gone with acrylic paint, but since you already have enamel, i can only say: thin coats.

No it won't I'm putting the servo and the board on one side along with some styrene.

Quote:
i like the chassis. wat parts did u use. but i wanna try it on an evo.
If you need to speak to me I'll help you out, send me a PM.

I finished painting. Here is the masking pics, my mom made me get off the computer at like 9:30ish cause she had to use it. I'll have my laptop back soon. Taking pics of it finished soon, I also painted a 350z wing red, and and going for rims next.

It came out great IMO. I preserved details and all.

Only one negative, I'm out of black detail gloss paint. So I have to order it, but I'm outa money. So the details I left out (mainly vents) are off to the side, unless someone wants to donate.

I have to sand out some little issues here and there, cut off some excess paint, touch up some paint, and then finally paint rims. I wanna spread this out to see how little details make a difference, STL

Masked pictures:

I accidentally burnt a hole in the hood when i tried to melt out the windows, so I sanded it down and am going to putty from the reverse side, or just leave it there :P

EDIT:
I have one preview picture of the finished paint job that I took, good pics soon, including the wing

Progress is coming along nicely. The body, doesn't it have removable windows ? The chassis is what I'm more interested in, sexy CF... Mhmm.

Good luck and have fun with this build !

Here are the pics. It's dark out, so dark pictures.

Vents I need to touch up with black paint:

Black rims soon

That wing=to big IMO. But other than that this is coming along nicely. Make sure you sand that hood too.

Hey dude,

Progress is good but I have some words..
-Get that Xacto ASAP
-Get that black paint ASAP

I like the red contrast that the wing gives the rest of the car but I feel it's too big for the GT-R. One about 2/3 the size would fit the lines better.

Your paint is on pretty even but I notice a layer of orange peel. That's pretty common with Testors brand paint and from where you are, there isn't much you can do about it. If you want to know what I would do, I would sand down the coat that's on there until it is smooth (no I didn't say sand it down to the plastic), and then spray another coat of white. Then clear coat it and repeat the process, then polish the clear coat. But as of right now you have no clear coat, so you can't just sand and polish the body, since you'll be risking reactions between a polishing compound and the paint.

Keep up the good work. I would like to see this turn out nice and clean.

Oh, by the way, my exhaust pipes beat yours.

it could do better is you removed the windows, then used an xacto to cut the masking, then last, didn't sue testors paint.

that's why i dont like using testors. they spray on unevenly, and don't self level

Thanks for the feedback

I've sprayed this white before and it dries and hardens weird. A little sanding on my scion fixed it.

I agree about the wing but I haven't cut off the standoffs completely yet, so I'm waiting to completely cut it then consider scrapping the wing

Paint looks a tad bumpy, but I'm surprised that panel lines ended up with some depth unlike alotta other xm bodies.
