Default Can you solder brass?

I was going to make some custom suspension arms out of brass rod, it seemed really easy but i was wondering if you could solder it together. I know brass is really close to copper so it should work but i wasn't too sure, "hence" o asked here.

Yes you can... I use it to make quick plugs for GEN1 boards and the crystal fix for Street Xmods, so does atomicmods.

Here is the brass rod soldered to superflex wire.

and here is the rod.

I am guessing your using thicker brass, but it should work.... scuff the edges your going to solder with some sand paper or file will help even more.

as said yes you can but its more brazing than soldering

useing a small blow torch will give much better results than an iron (dont forget plenty of flux )

+1 brazing will work better. Solder will not hold up well to the vibration and impact a suspension component will endure.

to connect brass to brass you need to braise, for this you will need an oxy acetaline torch and special brass braising rods, then its just like welding with oxy-cet kit, run your torch over the txo pieces that need joining and run your rods down the join whilst twisting the rod between your fingers and simply make little circles with your torch, you may need to use braising flux which is a white powdew, just warm the rod and dip it in, its that easy

I would agree with you for bass plates. But with the small size of rod that he will be using oxy acetylene will be way to hot and melt every thing. Also the cost of oxy acetylene torch would be over kill in this case.

I would get a map torch used for brazing plumbing pipes it might take a little longer to get the metal hot enough but you shouldn't have to worry about melting the small brass. Also look up some tuts for brazing pipes and plates they are all over the Internet.
