Hot batteries!
Ookay yesterday my dad helped my install a 6 ell. After we were done I drove it for a little bit. Then today I drove the car for like 30 seconds and the batteries on the bottom got hot. I do not know what heppened, but the batteries we added were fine. Does anybody know what might have happened?

Check to see if it's shorted anywere. If it's touching or wrong, you'll get hot batteries.

I've had the same problem with 1 out of 4 Radioshack battery sets taht I got. This one battery out of 16 just seems to get really, really, hot. I'm positive everything is wired correctly, its just this one battery, lol...

Are your batteries of different cell type/size? If you have mixed AA and AAA you could be "charging" the others, causing them to get warm.
You also could be "charging" the other cells just from using different cells. NiMH, will charge Alkaline, and won't work as "efficiently". Check all your wireing, and check the cells. If you use different cells, that may be the problem. Use all of the same size, and you should get rid of the problem. (Cell size may also be the discharge size. (mAh.)) |

They'll work, yes. But you may have the same heating problem. Heat in your batteries really isn't that major of a deal. Heat on the motor, you have a major problem.
Just keep an eye on them, and use them safely. They should be fine. |

And the heatsink is your choice. For what you're going to do, the batteries are not going to cause the motor to get really warm, at all. Especially since it's stage one. Where you want to worry about heat to motors is when you have an upgraded motor that requires upgraded FETs. Until then, no need to worry. |

its a problem when your batteries get HOT, them being warm to the touch is normal. and heat on the motor is normal.

And watch where you're throwing around that "noob" word. Just because I may have misworded something, doesn't mean I'm a noob. So watch it. Last edited by Donziikid; 06-11-2007 at 06:29 PM.. |

Yes. You will have no issues, or at least you shouldn't. If you get heat issues, you have bad cells, or you need to tune your driving skills.

How do you drive? Do you mash the throttle the whole time, or do you go slow? If you mash the throttle you are going to make the motor warmer, and warmer.
If you drive slowly, you will have the motor not get as warm. That's what I mean. Warm motor, drive slower. Cool motor, drive it like ya' stole it! Hone your driving til' everything is balanced. |

Donzii has it summed up.. But..
It's also in the gearing of the motor. On gen's the 11tooth wasn't faster in reall life than the 10tooth. Why? Simple. The extra tooth puts more strain on the motor. It's true in all of RC, including Nitro. So if you gear it down, the motor can get cooler... A hot motor will be less effiecient than a warm one, and a warm one might be more effiecient than a cold one. But if it's hot, then it's being less effiecent, so it needs MORE power, put strain on the batteries and on the FET's. Like Donzii said, it goes hand in hand.. Oh, and on the noob thing, Donzii knows more than most members here. He's been in it longer than most members here. Be careful who you call noob.

Yet in one post he says dont mix cells and then later says it's fine. I'm not trying to pick a fight here just want to make sure accurate info is portrayed...Do not mix cells of different type, size or mah. |

Sorry; I should have been more clear on my part. When I referred to it being fine mixing different cell type/sizes in those posts, I meant mAh size (which is classified as cell size.) It should be a well known general fact that you are not supposed to mix cell class sizes, such as AA, AAA, or anything for that matter. Mixing different sized mAh cells will not have an impact that could potentionally be harmful, unlike mixes sizes as in cell class sizes (AA, AAA, etc.) Also, if you refer to post Five where I stated: Quote:
I wasn't clear on my wording. Next time I shall be more clear and precise on my wording. --------------------------------- Also, ZX9RBART, if you could point out where I was contradicting with my own posts. I seem to be stumped where you believe I said one thing, then another. I really only mentioned cell size once. If you were referring to me saying that it would be fine for Jabari to run those different cells (refer to post #13/14) then it would have been clear as to what I was saying if you would have read everything I had said. As you are, I am not trying to pick a fight. I am merely stating my side/facts. Also, if you would like we can take this to PM so we do not get this thread locked, also so we do not have to make this public. Your decision.
