1969 Camaro Z/28
Here is my 2nd project, a 1969 Camaro. I found a really nice shade of red to paint it in, and I think I'll be going with white stripes. Most of my work is going to be going into Eleanor right now (see other thread), but I've got a few things in mind for this car too.
The barricade wheels will not be on the finished product. |

I want to stick something more "old school" for the wheels...not sure if I'll use what came with the model, or if I'll use xmod rims.

you cant get anymore "oldschool" then the cragar knockoffs that came with the tire upgrade.
with the right paint, they look ALOT like either the crager 5's or the AMracing torque thrusts. i can't really find anything wrong with it so far so i guess that ends my post......lol let's see more cheers, Bondo |

Real soon. I'm going to try to mount the body tonight (it's just resting on the chassis in the above-pics), and then get it painted once this cold snap is over. I'm looking at below-zero temperatures for the next couple of days.

Double post! Sorry...a moderator can feel free to save this response over my last one, if needed...
Update on the Camaro. I got the body mounted in nice, and even found a nicer set of wheels for the time being (5th gen Camaro wheels, from Bumblebee). I was going to mount the rally wheels from the model kit, but believe it or not, the kit was short one wheel. Talk about a bummer. Well, enough talk...here's what it looks like right now: PS: I have updated pics on my Eleanor Mustang, too; if you want to check out that thread Last edited by Camaro98; 01-16-2009 at 11:21 PM.. |

Yeah I know...the black ones were all I had on hand at the moment. I'll definitely have to make a run to the store and buy more of the metal lugs. Those black ones look hideous.

It's going to be a dark metallic red with white SS stripes.
If I keep these wheels, I plan on leaving them silver. |

personally i believe that the 69 z28 was one of the most bada$$ looking muscle cars EVER! its just the way all the lines and the motor and everything just fit.

I'm a bigger fan of the 1967 Camaro, actually, but I had this model kit sitting around and wanted a new project. But yes, the 69 Camaro has some nice lines.
I've made a little headway on the project. Since the grille isn't glued in place, I painted it and detailed it. The body is ready for paint, just waiting for warmer conditions. Other than that, I disassembled the gearbox because of a nasty grinding noise it had been making since I took the original barricade out of the box. Come to find out, the lower mount screws were pushed into the ring gear teeth. So, I replaced the long screws with short ones and cut back the plastic inside the gear case a bit. No more noise. And since I was in there, I decided to change the gears while I was at it. 11-25 ratio. I would have gone for torque, for faster takeoffs, but I have the torque gears in my 1998 Camaro. Thanks. It's supposed to have a more metallic red underglow to it, but that won't show up much until I get to wet sand it and buff the paint out. I think the heater I used dried the paint too fast, because the finish looks like a leather book cover in close-up pictures...
Buildup...you mean down by the spoiler? Yeah, that's excess model glue that I didn't see till after the topcoat went on. I'll sand it down, and then I was planning on finishing the spoiler in flat black like you said. It should look pretty good once I get her buffed out and do some touchup work on the grille. That and the white stripes, of course. |
