Default Ouch thats gonna leave a mark

I thought we already had a thread for xmoding related injuries but I'll be ****ed if I can find it! So I will share my story in here instead!

Earlier today I was happily sitting here soldering away trying to clean up a really bad and rushed wiring job where three wires where connected together with 1 big glob of solder (I was being really lazy yesterday) when one of the wires flicks up and launches boiling hot solder all over me......

It ended up landing on my lip, just below my right eye (in the sensitive skin area but at least it didn't go in), across my forearms, in my beard and all down my t-shirt....

Needless to say it hurt quite a lot and I think this is a great example of why safety gear should be worn.

Good news is it takes away from the pain of the dislocated knuckles injury suffered yesterday!

That has happened to me alot, thats the reason I don't solder.

I was soldering one night in my shed, and all of a sudden a heard a sound outside (I thought it was somebody trying to jump my fence),I was going to look out the window, then a large piece of hot solder went into my shoe. There was a large welt on my foot for about a month or so,its just a medium sized skar now...

Default Soldering irons suck!!!

Well not to hijack your thread but..........

One day i saw this girl i liked and well she was givivng me "The look" and i happened to be soldering that day and sure enough i put my hand on the iron and after she was far past my garage i thought to my self "well the solder doesn't do itself" and as i turn to go back i thought again "were the hell is the soldering iron?"and a moment of looking around later i felt my hand was quite hot so i looked to see why and......my hand was on it!

So yeah it hurt like hell! And to this day i still hate to solder.

I thought you used a helping hands, B1G? That shouldn't have happened if you were using a helping hands; at least not the way I've been taught how to use it.

Sorry to hear about the burns. They hurt..

for anyone clumsy with soldering irons get a cold heat soldering iron. If you get this I would advise to get rechargable batts. though

Hahaha, cold heat is literally COLD, it won't MELT the solder.

i got the cold heat soldering iron, and rechargble bats, but the is made of graphite and cracked in like a week, and i did take car of it but it had sool features like the light and no waiting to heat up...

my worst injury, was when i dropped liquid plastic on my hand, i started to shake my hand and the plastic got stringy and wrapped around two fingers i had a blister on one that was thin but like an inch long

A better soldering iron then the coldheat is the Weller BP860MP it gets a little hotter (850°/900° settings). I splash solder all the time on me but it dosn't hurt (or i am just lucky) so it cools at a decent rate. The tip will still fry your skin in a second though unlike coldheat.

My worst injury was to my friend over the summer with a Pro-Pulse by Megatech. He decided he wanted to be close to the action and he got hit because I was jumping speed bumps. Luckily I took my bros' cell phone because it tore his skin off his big toe in a spot.

I somehow managed to get a hobby knife blade under my thumbnail, I've dropped and caught the soldering iron by the wrong end, slip and stab myself with the iron. I could keep going on and on.
I also melted through the power chord Luckily I didn't really touch the wires.
I still use the same soldering iron, just taped up the chord

Wow, so many soldering injuries! Im glad to say Ive never burnt myself with one *knock on wood* But I have cut myself countless times with razors and hobby knives. I think I should try to get those finger guard things, because I seem to cut myself a lot.

I've gotten some solder on me a few times, accidentally touched the solder right after the iron touched it, cut myself too many times with my X-acto, and I once got a little bit of diluted (watered-down) superglue in my eye. Everything heals eventually, right?
