Default What is the difference between a Production car and a non-production car?

Hey Guys,

So I had a disagreement with someone about this topic.
He says A production car is a car Mass produced in the U.S. like i.e a ford focus. On the other hand a Buggatti Is not a production Car because they Are not produced in the U.s. ..............He fails

I say, That A production Car is any Car Assembled on an assembly line in some form of factory whether it be 10 cars or 10,000 cars. a non pro. isn't.

Who is right?

please help

thanks
-XMU

A production car makes it into production a non-production doesn't.

I don't believe the country they are made in has anything to do with it.

Bugatti's are production because they made more than a concept car....

Yea, production car means there is more than a few of them made. lol

As in they are mass produced, unlike some cars that are made once & are basicly a one off custom or concept.

Production car is any car that's being produced by a company. One that preferably, they designed as well. Kit cars, tuners, etc do not count as production cars.

What does your friend drive?

Why do you ask? or was it sarcastic and rhetorical?

It's relevant to the topic. Decides whether or not his car is a "production" car by his standards.

Honda Civic would be about as production as you can get.... even if he's covered it in stickers there is still one in every corner of the world so no matter where it is made it's production....

Take something like the Mclaren SLR - it's a rare car for sure but I've walked down the production line at the factory in Woking and sat in the demo car in the factory show room, the fact that it has a production line must mean that it's a production car....

Well, crap, Honda does build them in the US. I was hoping for one of the GM models that's built in Canada, and "assembled" in the US (to keep the unions happy).

fastest as in speed? or fastest as in fastest in the production line(like they are making a lot of em)

for fastest in speed umm......... he's waaaaaaaaaaaaay off

for fastest in the production line.. he is still waaaaaaaaaaay off

around a track, i might have to disagree with him because of the Lexus LFA but then again, we do not know what track it is, if there are any restrictions, and also who is driving.....................................

either way.. fastest around a track.... its almost impossible to figure out

Isn't the Barabus TKR now the fastest production car out there or did it never actually go into production??

Quote:
The Bugatti Veyron may no longer be the world’s fastest car. Today — following a number of teasers and leaks — Barabus officially unveiled the TKR: a new 1005 horsepower supercar the automaker says is capable of doing zero to 60 mph in 1.67 seconds. What’s more, the car reportedly has a top speed of 270 mph — nearly 20 more than the Veyron. Power comes from a 6.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged with dual intercoolers. The car has a full carbon fibre body and chassis. Further details remain sparse, but the automaker says it will sell the car for £360,000, which should translate to around $500,000, using typical automotive market conversion rates.

It’s worth noting that Barabus sometimes refers to the car as being able to hit 60 mph in “under 2 seconds,” rather than the stated 1.67. Even so, there is still some doubt among enthusiasts if such a figure is even possible. Nonetheless, the car is on display at the 2006 British International Motor Show, and we expect to get more details in the near future. The TKR is said to have been in development for the last 10 years. The car is to be made in Italy and the power plant is built in the United Kingdom. Worldwide volume is projected to be 300-400 cars over the estimated three-year production run.
Or is it the SSC ultimate Aero TT which has a top speed of 256.18 mph but again not sure if it ever actually made it into production.... stupid supercars somebody builds a new one every few minutes.

Then in terms of fastest non-production car I think it's the Thrust SSC hich has a top speed of 760.343 mph.... and that's without NOS.
