and seriously, what ever happened to using puncuation?!? You need to know where one sentence stops and another starts...

These posts look like text messages. Am I the only one who finds this frustrating?!?

yes it does make people type faster but would you rather type faster or read
slower because you have to reread it 2 or 3 times

using shorthand is great for msn and that kinda stuff, but on here, it makes more sense to at least use punctuation. using the full word would be nice too. sometimes it takes two or three readings to figure out what someone is saying, which seems a little rediculous. not only that, but a lot of the shorthand is slang and i dont know what half of it means. ive figured some of it out, but what does FTW mean? just my two bits.

it means For The Win.
but if youre already adapted to that kind of typing, then you should be able to read it like when you regularly read

spelling errors are one thing, jumbling your entire post into one long assed sentence is another.

i can forgive and look past the spelling errors because the way the human brain works is amazing. also the qwerty keyboard can be troublesome for people who havnt taken a typing class.

the human brain can distinguish words as long as the first and last letters of the word are in the right spot.

EXAMPLE:
i lvoe jsesica abla, she wtans to hvae my cihlrden.
you can make out the sentance but it takes a split second longer.

it's the ebonics and paragraph long sentances that bug me.
i shouldnt have to break out the ebonics dictionary in order to help someone.

if you want proper help then use proper grammer.

it may help you type faster but it makes others read slower and to tell you the truth, when i see posts of this manner i disregard them and hit the back button.

i see too many posts that give me headache and make me crosseyed.
i dont think it the im's i think its just a lack of self control.

if you write like this on a job application, chances are your not going to get the job and then your going to sit back on welfare whining about why no one will hire you.

as mentioned, there's a difference between abbreviations, and a little 1337, versus just plain lazy horrible english. it makes you look like a total moron.

if you can't spell. download a copy of Mozilla Firefox 2. it has an integrated spell check, that checks the spelling as you type!

yeah i mean common on AIM nd whatever other instant messanger you use you can type shorthand but when you're trying to explain something important to help someone out on this forum or any other it would be easier for other people to read it you wrote out the whole thing....yeah i hate doing that too nd usually write shorthand but it makes it harder for people who dont follow shorthand language to understand what you are saying

im cool wit it. i can read it like their typing was perfect. i try to type normal when useing this forum, but it gets hard when u r typing on aim or yahoo. personally i like typing like i do on aim... short and abbreviated.

BTW (by the way) FTW stands 4 For The Win, but can also stand for F**K The World. when ever i say FTW it means F The World.

I've only known it to mean for the win.

as for the split decision on using IM type vs. proper type in forums: You should be respectful of others who will read your posts. If they have to take two or three times to read your post, because you were trying to save one or two seconds typing, well... that is just a bit selfish.

I try to quickly scan my posts before hitting submit, so I know it is easy for others to read. They are taking the time to listen to me/read my posts, so why wouldn't I be graceous enough to make it as quick and accurate as possible for them?!?

FTW= for the win

FTL= for the loss

I don't think it's a big deal using abbreviations, this isn't english class. If someone wants to use bad grammer it's to their disadvantage.

People should be able to type however they want. But they can only get mad at themselves if they see that a thread they started doesnt get any responses....some people (like me) dont bother with reading stuff such as: dis job on dis car is ill yo or stuff that's too long to read (like that drift bible). Thats my opinion.

^^I don't think anyone's complaining about abbreviations.

I use abbreviations all the time, IIRC, btw, etc. but I use periods, commas, and proper spelling on everything else....

I don't think it's IM, I think it's George Bush's "no child left behind" program(he he) No but seriously, I agree 100%. The next time I see "because" spelled like "becuz" I'm going "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" on someones a** Just kidding. All we ask is that there is some kind of an attempt to spell correctly. I don't know how many topics I passed up answering because I couldn't understand the question being asked.
