Great Project to choose, yes lots of people do somthin with a scion, but thats becuz its cool. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Good work so far, but it's too late now but I would recommend sanding the body before doing any body/putty work, it will help is stick to the body better.

i did i took the stock pics a couple days ago then sanded before i started except for the front fender

UPDATE!!!!!!!!
So i got one side close to done. Just layed the putty down on the passengers side last night. started on front bumper and have the spoiler made and switched color choice maybe... now for pics

the side i just layed putty on i know it looks bad right now.

on the drivers' side, the rear dender flare starts too high. look over your reference pictures again to see if you can spot what i'm talking about. don't worry about it looking bad now. most projects start out looking pretty bad, so don't fret that your puttywork isn't like Dr. Kustom's (he's a genetically enhanced bodywork specialist). for mere mortals like us, your direction seems to be on the right track. I do suggest trying to use alternate materials like styrene sheets because it's slightly easier to make shapes from and stronger. putty would still be neccesary, but you'd use those on the seams of the styrene to smooth it out rather than using it as the main build-up material

yea and to be honest with you as soon as i looked before i read your post i thought mine looked to high... but i have 3 sheets of styrene ans instead of trying to make my putty prfect go over the outside of the putty with the styrene for a flat surface
