Default Gas Engines

i have a 1/6th scale snowmobile and i was wondering what kind and size engine i should get...im looking for at least 50-60 mph but also good bottom end. i have never dealt with gas r/c's before and this probly isnt the place to start but i can learn pretty fast.

depending on what type of final drive you plan to use a .21 or .25 will give you plenty of power down low and rev in excess of 30,000 rpm. My 1/8th scale buggies (8 pounds or so, 4wd) will do 50 easy. I have an indy car with a .15 that does over 60...it all boils down to gearing and power to weight ratio.

How will you mount it, and it need proper cooling holes. The plastic will melt. You will also need a good radio, as you need an extra servo for the.... Carb operation..

Get a Novarossi 528. Good for 5+ hp...

i cut out where the plastic looks there should be mesh and i wil put in screen, im planning on getting sheet metal for mounting stuff and it can stand more heat, also im gonna put plexiglass in... if anyone knows about Rhinoliner(the truck bed stuff) would i be able to spray it on the inside of the hood to withstand heat. once i get pics this will be more understandable, but the gas tank is gonna go under the seat along with the battery and servos.... there have been others who have done the conversion also

this might give you a small idea of how im gonna set it up

This thing's a nitro powered snowmobile? I doubt that... Or are you doing a mod to run it with a nitro engine? If so, go for something torquey like a .21

I understand now. It was quite confusing at first.

Anyway Scott, if you haven't dealt with hobby-grade nitro R/Cs, I suggest you try them first before you dump a rather large amount of money into this.

I havent dealt with them before, in fact i have never looked into them before now, but im a fast learner and if im going to spend any money it is going to be for the stuff for this sled, only cause i dont have much. But i have found someone possibly working on a belt drive system for a .21 engine and he also has said that hes spent a lot of money on a custom tranny...so hopefully the belt drive system will work and i wont have to worry about shredding any parts...

I also have an idea for gas tanks, it's possible to fit a large tank under the seat, but ive seen people with 2 tanks and wondered if it would be worth putting a second small tank somewhat closer to the engine?

Thing is... Belt drive? Nitro? WHY?

That sounds like it will shred fast..

I dont know all of the details but on another hobby site someone who was working on the same kind of snowmobile said that he had to make custom tranny's and they broke a lot so he said he was going to try and make a belt drive system, thats all i know, i havent looked into lately...he also said that hes gonna try and get 1 belt to last 15-25 tanks.

are there any differences between boat, car, and airplane motors... i mean in torque/speed but the same size(ie. is there a difference between a .21 plane, or a .21 car engine?)

I'm sure there is in port, timing/duration, and some other things...

I know the tuned pipe is diffrent, and some other stuff. Like diffrent gas, but I'm no expert....
