Cool Hi to all

My name is Paul...and this is between y'all.
(sorry, couldn't resist the Pulp Fiction quote)

I've been in and out of Micro RC and XMODS over the last few years and have recently gotten back into XMODs. I just bought the New XMODs Street Corvette V06, added the AWD, and am loving it. When I was into XMODS in a previous life, I modded the Hummer H2 with the AWD, lift kit, and lights.

Attached are two pics of my Corvette, sitting on a bridge I made out of cereal boxes. I added some LED lights in the ceiling of the under pass. Sorry can't attach a pic of my H2, the only pic I have of it is 512kb--too big to attach here.

My main regret in the XMODS arena is not getting more of the modding kits when they were still on the shelves at Radioshack. The stage 2 motor upgrade is still available, but I don't know where I'd get any use out of it. I can't afford a track any bigger than 20' by 10' or 15' and that much speed would just send the car crashing into a barricade on every turn. And that ground effect light kit? Who the heck want's that? I'm waiting for the command logic light kit to get on the shelves again.

I'd love to hear some cool recommendations for modding, track building, and anything else XMODS that you fellas can muster up.

Hang loose,

Doc

Welcome Doc'. Hope you enjoy your stay. Due to the lack of good quality, I assume those are pics from a phone?

Hi XMR-1,

Close, those pics are from a webcam. But since we can't upload anything bigger than a few KB, I don't know how I could post a pic any clearer than that. Of course, when I started on computers there was no such thing as a harddrive--and I haven't advanced that much, computerwise, over the decades (counting my grey hairs). If there is a better way to up load a sharper pic without blowing the KB limit, I'd love to hear how.

Hang loose,

--Doc

Oh ok its fine. See I have a digital camera(but not point and shoot) and so I'm used to clear pics. No trouble here. Webcam? Those are pretty good for a webcam.

Thanx, XMR-1.

The webcam was top of the line about two years ago--a logitech external webcam (I wanna say one or two MegaPixel?)

I saw some people post pics of cars with what looks like metal lug nuts? Where can I get such small-thread lug nuts to replace the cheap, plastic ones that come with the XMODS?

Thanks. Holla!

1-2 MP? Not bad for a 2YR old webcam. My camera has 10.0 MegaPixel but its a camera. My brother just got a(I think) 3MP webcam. Not positive.

Why has no one mentioned that he could upload and host his images on another site and post them here?

Doc, you can upload your images to www.photobucket.com

You get plenty of storage space (I currently have over 400 pictures stored there) and file size isn't an issue. Then, all you have to do is copy the link with the [img] tags around it, and paste it here and the picture will work.

Example:

[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0153.jpg[/IMG*]

See how the second link has a * at the end of it? I just did that to show you what the link will look like, that's the link to the picture posted.

If you need any help with that, PM me.

Welcome to XMS and enjoy your stay!

Thanks, Ling! Yeah, my computer skills are a bit lacking, to say the least.

So the asterisk is like the REM statement of the old Basic Programming days? I get it.

Thanks for demo-ing for me. I guess I need to start a photobucket account, up load my higher res pics there, then link those uploaded pics to my posts here, right? Coolness.

I'll post a pic of my H2 - Hooptie in a little bit.

Nice Camaro, btw. Schweet!

Hope this works,

Hey Firebird,

I made it out of old cereal boxes, carpenter's glue, hot glue, primer spray paint, black spray paint, white electrical tape, and AFX guard-rails.

I just cut out the sections of the bridge in the shapes needed and used carpenter's glue to attach them.

The mixture of black paint, primer paint (and some people add white spray paint) give the aged asphalt look.

White electrical tape cut into short strips for the white dotted line.

AFX guardrails hot glued to the edges.

Hang loose,

--Doc

XMR-1,

Yep, the same web cam. The trick for clarity is to make sure the cam is on a steady surface, so it doesn't wobble.

XMR-1,

I'm sorry man. I thought you were talking about the bridge pics!

No, the pic of my H2 was taken with a 6MP digital camera! The photo size of the H2 pic is half a MB! That's why it's so clear.

I got confused because Firebird was asking about the bridge...that was taken with the Webcam.

Not sure why, but when I look at pics I've posted in the Corvette Gallery, the pics are very small. I know they are bigger than that because when I open them in Windows fax viewer, they are much larger.

Not sure what's up with that

I tried, but when I go to the gallery, it's in filmstrip mode. I can't change the mode, and when I click on the image, it stays in filmstrip mode. If I right click on the image and choose "view image", it opens a new tab in firefox and shows the same, tiny, filmstrip image.

Welcome. I like the bridge you made. One day I might make me a little off road track for the Hummer.

Default Sounds cool, dude!

When you finish the H2 course, I'd love to see pics, man.

I refined the bridge a bit more. I used to have yellow electrical tape strips for the double yellow line, but then I realized: "Though my pinstripe tape is white, I have yellow spray paint--I can paint the pinstriping tape yellow, then lay down some 1:28 scale double yellow lines!"

Also, I printed out some signage...those striped signs one sees at the beginning of a bridge to say, "Hey, dummy, don't miss the bridge!" and a "trucks use low gear" sign for the down slope...not to mention some height restriction signs--according to my scale calculations, the bridge clearance is 9'6" scale-clearance. The more detail I add to it, the more psyched I get about building a small city or town for my sled to roll in.

I'm already working on some trees to put around the track. Anyone here know about the mathematical concept of "Fractals?" Anyway, I noticed that twigs from fallen branches of trees are like miniature tree trunks. I snatched some up off the ground and started hot-gluing some scale foliage to the "Branches"--you know, the "folliage" they sell in hobby stores. Very promising, but I think I'm gonna try using hairspray to "set" the folliage to the branches. Hot glue gets stringy and I can't seem to separate it from the scale tree after I'm done with it. We'll see.

Oh, and here's an off topic thought: If you are looking for command logic lights for an XMOD, the Bumble Bee body kit comes with them. My local RS's are fire-sale-ing these kits for 37cents! 37 cents for command logic lights! They work fine with any XMOD chassis.

Props to the Bigguns,

--Doc
