Where were you?
9-11-01, just curious as we had this conversation at work today.
My youngest (Malcolm) was 5 days old, i was back to work and in the locomotive shop when my friend who worked in the office came out and told me that a private plane had just "accidentally" hit the world trade center, he left and a little while later said the news is now saying that two jumbo jets had hit each of the twin towers and a third was headed for the pentagon. I remember my mom calling me and telling me to get home to my family. That day looks different now but back then we all had no idea how fat this was going to go and we live in an area that was on the top 10 list of bomb sites during the cold war so we were maybe a little more nervous. Just curious of others memories. I usually dont play the tough mod role, but this will not get out of hand. |

o yeah i was a junior in school when this happened

I was headed to a "computer class" with Mr. Porcupine (that's what we called him, real name was Mr. Ponoworski) in second grade (maybe third, don't quite remember..). That's really all I remember other than the fact that they locked down the school. We were told to stay with good-ole Mr. Porcupine on the computers while the rest of the school was locked in their classrooms. Our second grade teacher gathered with the other second grade teacher, whose class was in gym class at the time, along with the other available teachers, principle and secretaries to watch the local news and the development of the story. They later told me, along with the other camp counselors, what they remember so vividly while watching the new fifth graders at Fifth Grade Camp this last March.
What I do remember vividly, however, is a couple days after I walked down to my "Uncles" (Godfather, but not related) and he had the television tuned into one of the local news networks and I saw gas had spiked to $2-something in Metro-Detroit due to the attack. At that day I thought I would never see it higher.. Ha! As with every 9/11 discussion I must give my thanks to the brave men and women who risked their lives trying to save others from the World Trade Centers as well as the Pentagon. As well, I must thank the other brave men and women who were or are currently on foreign soil protecting us from further possible threats. Cheers, Kyle.

I highly regret not remembering 9/11, and I am almost ashamed to say it. My school did jack-diddly for us, and it was like "A plane hit a building, this is horrible, but you're in 1st grade, so you wouldn't understand" type of thing. Well with the new Freedom Towers we are kinda giving the big middle finger to the terrorists, and I dont mind that at all. I want to feel safe in my home, my city, my state, and my country. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was in sixth grade, we were in the locker room getting cleaned up after playing basketball in the gym. The coaches always watched the news while we were in there, and I remember over-hearing something about "An attack on American soil" so I walked over to where the TV was, and there were about 20 people crowding around it. The news kept playing the video of the first plane over and over again, and then the second plane hit, so they started freaking out even more. Then the bell rang, and I stayed and watched as long as I could, not wanting to leave, but also not wanting to be late. When I got to my next class, my teacher wasn't there, she was watching the news in another room. When she finally got there and let us into the room, she turned on the news and I had then learned that the towers had collapsed. We watched the news for about half an hour before the principal made the announcement to turn off the news, it was "scaring" some of the students.

awesome thread topic!
first and foremost let me thank anyone who serves or has family that serves.(pass it on) i may not fully believe in our governments actions but i do support those that fight for it wether wrong or right. it takes alot of cajones to put your life on the line so the rest of the country can feel safe and relish in what liberties we have left. hats off and beers to ya. i was rudely awaken by my friend scott a few minutes after the first plane hit and flipped on the tube just in time to see the second plane hit........ just like bart,my buddy skizza had explained that an airplane had "accidentally" hit the WTC. i was still on the phone with him when we saw the second plane hit and i swear you could hear all of bay city mouthing/wispering in unison,..."holy ****". then the rest unfolded. EVERYTHING took a backseat that day. i called into work(like many others) gathered loved ones and sat infront of the T.V waiting on updates.

Freshman year, world history (ironic). An announcement came over the intercom. sadly there were no tvs with cable access in my school. (I still believe conspiracy but please dont comment on my story stick to your own). And as stated before... I don't side with our government but I do support the troops. I have friends serving.

I was in my class in 3rd grade. Even though I lived on the east coast, I didn't know about it until after lunch. The teacher (Mrs. Dawson just for reference) turned off all the lights and said that planes were hijacked and the Twin Towers had collapsed. Unfortunately, due to the fact I was only a 3rd grader, I didn't know what the twin towers were and asked what they were. I thought it was some sort of Eiffel Tower thing. It wasn't until around 4:00 (after my oh so Asian piano class) did I really understand what happened.

Northwood Hills, London, England. The day before a rather nasty virus had been released and on 911 it hit my office with me being the only windows admin available, someone came and told me it was going on but it didn't really register. Pretty soon after that the communications blackout began. 2 of my friends work literally 3 blocks away from it as it happened, there buillding was damaged from fallout both made it out just fine. Crazy day!!
