Default Silverado is Dead.

Well...I was picking up my girlfriend from school today and had to stop for gas. My truck had been running fine all morning, it's never given me one problem. After I fill up, i take off and it keeps popping, pinging, and running like crap. It barely made it to her house, killed, and wouldn't crank up again. Either they filled the gasoline wells with diesel or they've got water in their gas =/ I had it towed to the dealership, they're pulling my baby apart right now.

ah man that really sucks. Hope the dealership can get it fixed, if you find out it is a result of the gas stations fault you could sue them of get them to cover the cost of the repairs.

That really stinks.. At least you made it safely to her house and were able to call someone to come get it. Way better than dying in the middle of a busy intersection, eh?

Good luck with the repairs. Hopefully nothing got too damaged.

Cheers,
Kyle.

If its bad gas I'm sure your not the only one and the usually stations are willing to take care of the expense. If they need to pull the tank and flush out the system I doubt it will be a big enough bill to sue over.

However chevy trucks are notorious for fuel pump quiting around 60k.

If they just refilled the tanks you should try to avoid using the gas station. When they fill them it stirs the sediments on the bottom and sends them to the top. This can mess up the system....sometimes if it is bad enough..

Thats true, most things get trapped in the fuel filter though, Our chevy's fuel pump seems like its startin to go, its got a little over 70K

that's a low pressure pump, late model is a common problem.

that sucks that fuel pumps crap out like that, sounds similar to the "100000 mile filter" on the late 90s rams fuel pump. lol

there was a station a month or so ago that had diesel mistakenly added to the regular gas about 90 miles south of here in wichita, caused a lot of damage and problems.

If the fuel pump went bad, it can still crank and stutter for a bit if you hit the key a few times to build pressure.

But popping and pinging sounds like it went lean and was detonating. I vote bad gas. Same crap happens to me, I can't run cheap-brand regular.

this was 91 octane Chevron gas, not cheap stuff...i can't wait to hear what the dealership has to say. i'm curious, and i hope that my attempt to get it from the gas station to her house didn't damage any of the internals. if so, i guess that'd be the perfect opportunity to stroke up to a 6.0 =P

not necessarily, when the one on the ram went out, it just sputtered and die, then it started later in the week luckily, so we didnt have to tow it 15 miles.

the one on the wifes car 03 malibu, we drove to my uncles house, shut the car off and it would not start again, period. tried building up the pressure, (turning key on and off) and notta. had the wife hit key on and off 5 times, checked fuel rail bleeder valve, no pressure. wouldnt start until i replaced fuel pump.

Correlation does not imply causation. Could be just coincidence. I wouldn't be too hasty in deeming the cause bad gasoline. BTW does your car require 91 octane? I put premium on mine but its a required for my vehicle. I won't put anything less than 93 in it. Its tuned to exactly 11.0 A/F ratio and I'm running around 20 pounds of boost so I wouldn't risk it.

well. it's safe to say that i'm an idiot. due to lack of sleep the past 3 days from contracting the flu and the meds i'm on, i stay light headed. the dealership called me back, and it seems that i thought it would be a good idea to try and run my truck off of diesel. i don't have my receipt, because it gave me that "see cashier for receipt" BS on the pump, but at the station, the diesel and gas nozzles are the exact same...the pump that i pulled up at was the only one at the station with diesel, and me being lightheaded and being a ditzy blonde on top of that...probably did put diesel in my truck $1,267 in damage. on the plus side, it's getting all tuned up, my injectors are getting all clean and you guys get to LOL at me
