The Wankle. Most ingenius engine ever made in my opinion. Not sure what proof I have for you that I had one though, but I did.

VW 1200cc engine. Sure they are set up kinda funny, and make about -50hp, but since this is about engines you've worked on, then this is my favorite because its so simple to fix/rebuild. My second favorite would be the GM 3.8L. A lot more complicated than the VW engine, but its pretty powerful for an older, American, V6. (And they can be supercharged pretty easily.)

Hyundai Beta II. pretty stout engine, compact, leaves plenty of engine bay room to work with, stock internals and block can hold up to 300-400 horses, though i'm aimin for the 200-250 range

i would have to say the ford 4.6 281 motor in the 1996-97 mustang gts. its such a sturdy block i havent personally done any of this but theres guys with twin turbo setups running around 1000hp on a stock block. wicked cool. and it has lots of power from the factory my sister has it in her car and we freshened up all the plugs and wires and injectors an that fun stuff and the put an exhaust on it and a CAI. right in the 280-300 range never been dynod seemed pointless. just my favorite engine so far but there are many others like a 440 a 302 383 427 lots of em hell even a 7.2 powerstroke is wicked.

That would be the 4.6L 3V. . The 4.6L 1V engine sucks. That's whats in my Vic. The only reason it can still run with the 3Vs is because of the shorter gears in the diff.

I would have to say the Ford 289. For a small block it is easily modded and doesn't take very much to get 400hp if desired(well it takes money). But they are long lasting and IMO probably one of the most reliable ford motors if maintained well.

H22 out of a prelude, thats swapped into an accord. 200 hp stock internals, can stand 5-7 psi of boost, dohc, and its V-tec! haha but this motor can withstand some beating, if over beaten this is just a pos in the engine bay.

Venerable 350 small block. The sky is the limit to what power your looking for. And a semi-trained monkey can still rebuild it.

I'm thinking you mean 4.6 2v not 4.6 1v as in reference to valves per cylinder. One valve would never work.

Mitsubishi 4g63. Easily holds 300-400 on stock everything. Able to hold boost over 20 psi. This engine was made over a decade before the Beta! Also a 2.0 DOHC.

Don't get me wrong I like the beta (my girlfriend has a beta engine in her elantra).

Most of Hyundai's engines are re engineered mitsu engines. They bought most of their early technology from them.

Haha, my bad. I really need to re-read my posts...

Slightly off-topic, but have you guys heard that Ford is bringing back the 5.0 in 2011?

Their putting a little pushrod motor in?

It is not 'the' 5.0, it's 'a' 5.0.

Unless it's gotta goofy intake and has a wicked awesome white-rap about it, it's not 'the' 5-point-OH!
